Chroma does very well as a direct modulator for a dedicated piece of hardware, especially those that provide a single sound, or for mixed sounds that you want to squish together into a single 'thing.' It has some limitations as a send effect in the studio, but is still fun that way in a live setting.

BlankFor_ms... thank you for this very thorough demonstration. The feature of this pedal that interests me most is the Interference effect, which reminds me of some of my favorite sound effected moments from Sigur Rós - Takk. Do you know of a plugin, or combination of plugins that can do this effect better than the Chroma Console's?

This is such a great video about a great pedal. Thanks for sharing your process! I’m really excited to play with this and my 414mkii. There are so many things I love about the Chroma Console but one of my favorites is the ability to route the effects blocks independently. Hologram Electronics if you’re listening the ability to do parallel routing would be amazing to see in a firmware update.
@BlankFor_ms4 ай бұрын
@@saggygnaw that’s a great idea. Also it would be amazing if you could replace modules with other modules, two reverbs in a row for example.

i have the same feelings about chroma console vs. microcosm. they're very similar yet the CC seemed more usable and performance friendly. i feel like it's a better tool for effecting and providing textures to add on to what you're playing vs. the microcosm seemed to take over more as the final instrument instead of working in parallel if that makes sense. great vid.

I love my Zoia and Beebo for what they can do, but this seems like it can fill an immediacy hole, where I can more easily tweak multi-effects on the fly and find some unique sounds. Does that track with your experience?
@BlankFor_ms8 күн бұрын
Yes, definitely. That's a great way of putting it actually. It excels at fast tweaking. Simple combinations of multiple effects, without having to fuss much with them. Very user friendly.

Great sounds! I totally forgot this could even record, that's the next thing I'm going to try, although it looks like you were recording the knob movements, while there is also a looper I haven't even gotten to either using the footswitch on top of that. Phaser is good at slowest speed (I wish they had a slower option) for shoegaze or vaporwave type modulation. Broken is great, it has a breaking down of equipment failure type sound that can be useful. Collage introduces different speed delays, especially with knob movement. Also, the secondary function on movement and diffusion all have a "drift" adjustment to make them even more unstable. They packed a lot in here, you should (and probably have) check it out on a clean signal, and it really results in more analog than digital sounds in almost all of the FX.

Been considering replacing my hefty Tascam M-512B with one of these. I mainly use the Tascam to funnel all my hardware through to save input real estate on my interface, which I've now realised I can achieve by linking up my old Saffire Pro via ADAT, kinda making the desk overkill for what I'm using it for. I love the character the M-512B adds to my synths though - beefs them up and adds some sparkle, while still remaining transparent.. Which is the only concern I'd have with the Chroma, transparency.. From your experience, does it work well as just a subtle boost and "warmifier" at the end of a signal chain? Much prefer the idea of having a desktop unit to handle the analog warmth at the end of my chain, rather than having to scoot over to the board on the other side of the room and adjust eq's and monitor levels haha
@BlankFor_ms2 ай бұрын
@@jsenior65 it can definitely do that. My guess would be that it won’t sound exactly like the Tascam, but would give you its own version. Just looked up the 512, sorta want one now

yeah, there are great pedals that really lend themselves well to sound design, but really aren't so ideal when it comes to performing live, and it's good to understand that distinction.
@Eli_B30004 ай бұрын
On the flip side, for something like a fuzzy bass or guitar, Tame Impala style, this would be a good all in one for a lot of different sounds, you could probably record a whole album with it and then play it live using the same presets.
@ebbflow29 күн бұрын
It doesnt really make alot of sense to use a 400$ pedal this way. If your already working in ableton then just use plugins instead of getting all this extra crap out. I mean its not like the chroma is analog circuitry. If your already in the box might as well just stay in the box and save the 400$. Im just saying it seems like a waste of money.
@BlankFor_ms29 күн бұрын
@@ebbflow thanks for watching. Like I said in the video, I use this primarily for live performing. And I don’t perform with a laptop. But beyond that, even fully digital gear can have great value in terms of workflow and physical interface. if you don’t mind working entirely with a computer, you are right that everything this pedal does can be done in a DAW.
