THANK YOU! I can't believe it was that easy. I use OpenShot a lot with teaching social studies (we time travel in the TARDIS) and I wanted to figure out how to open the doors of the TARDIS to wherever/whenever we landed in the world. I had a feeling there might be a way to do it in OpenShot but didn't see the ChromaKey effect until I found your video. My kids are gonna freak! Thanks again!!!!

Hi Jonathan, thanks for such a nice tool. My first movie editing experience was years ago with an Avid Media Composer 1000 so I've been spoiled ... OpenShot is a very nice tool with lots of nice features. Chroma keying works best with good video material. The cat lying down on the green screen means it's being lit indirectly with light reflecting from the floor so Tanger's video is not the easiest to start with. I just hope people watching this video realize this. Softer lighting will give less shading and might result in better quality - but that's up to us movie makers to figure out 😉

Great tutorial Jonathan, Thank You! Apparently, this video program has its flaws but it is workable with trial and error. I did a practice test and also had to use 3 chroma Keys to get it to come out just right.

Hey John! Thanks for creating Open Shot and all these super awesome videos! One question regarding Chrome effects: 1. Can we also add it from a particular time point in a clip? And end the effect in the same clip at a particular time? 2. How to add it for all clips starting at time X and end at time Y for all tracks? 3. Is there a way to just specify multiple shades of the color we want to chop off using this effect in one effect instance only, instead of adding the effect multiple times with shades of the color? (Could be a feature if not implemented?) Thank you!

Btw I'm so glad you didn't add trendy b.s. music to this like a lot of tutorials do. It was nice to actually be able to hear what you are saying. Thank you.

I really like OpenShot, just found about it these few days back. Thank you! And allow me to ask questions about zoom in on minute 1:25? Can we do that effect in OpenShot? I mean, frame by frame? Thank you.
@OpenShotOfficial
@OpenShotOfficial Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question! Yes, you can accomplish this effect in 2 different ways. First, you can use the transform tool in OpenShot, and/or adjust the scale_x and scale_y keyframe properties. The larger you scale the video, the more zoomed in you will be. Or, you can use a desktop zoom program, which allows you to zoom into the desktop. I have one for Linux, but I imagine there are many options for Windows and Mac as well. This is sometimes the easiest method, as it requires no video editing for the zooming - since you can do it while recording your screen. Hope that helps!

I've been trying to get this effect to work... i record an animation in wow model viewer with a choice solid color for the background, the bright green color in this case (later i chose a teal) and followed instructions. I placed it over my background, added the chrome effect, got it to work EXCEPT for the background (green) outline around the animation. I tried adding multiple effects as you did in this video (though it should not have been needed as the background had been a solid color, right?) and there was no change. I played with the fuzz thing and still absolutely no change to the outline around the animation. Very frustrated :(

Thank you for a great program, I have a small query most of my editing will be video files taken on my drones, I have tried the contrast and brightness which works most of the time but sometimes when I drop the icon onto my video the icon does not appear on the video on the timeline, but my question is can I recolour the sky on a video and also is there a sharpness button???
@OpenShotOfficial
@OpenShotOfficial Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question! Pro-Tip: You can drop an effect on the track name (i.e. left of the timeline), and it will apply to all clips on that track. But the icon not appearing might just be "where" you are dropping it. The clips are pretty picky about where they accept effects being dropped - only the top of a clip. But that is most likely a bug, and I'll take a closer look. Regarding sharpness, we don't currently have a sharpness (or super resolution) effect, but that is on our roadmap for the future.

This might be the answer I was looking for. So I can't wait to start playing with. OK, Maybe a stupid question. Is there something magical about the color green for the background? I know that is what is used professionally. I get the impression from the video that just about anything is OK, as long as it is fairly consistant.
@twiggerztv4964
@twiggerztv4964 4 жыл бұрын
yeah it doesn't have to be green. Just make it fairly bright and fairly consistent and you should be able to just follow the steps as normal and instead select your other colour you'd like to key out.
