A very important part of Bebop Jazz Guitar is to use passing notes and chromaticism. In this guitar lesson I am going to demonstrate and explain three ways you can use to add chromatic passing notes in your jazz guitar solos. Passing notes are a big part of the bebop sound and the chromatic approach licks that I go over here will give you the sound of the bebop style.
Using chromaticism in this way is a great way to add some bebop or jazz flavour to your guitar solos even if you don't really play that style of guitar. These ways of using chromatic notes are also a signature part of the bebop style that you have to master if you want to be able to play mainstream jazz.
In the video I go over 5 different bebop licks and three ideas for using chromatic passing notes. On my website I also included a few more bebop licks that you can check out and use as an inspiration to develop this skill further.

This is the Jens Larsen lesson I've been waiting for. I've been struggling to have a better bebop sound, and while all your lessons are great, I'm glad this one is on the shorter side. Sometimes I get overwhelmed by the breadth of knowledge you deliver in your videos. Thanks Jens!

After years struggling with the concept (including some teachers who could really play their ass off but maybe not as good instructors as players), here I am: watching this short 7:30 explanation on youtube which is clear, concise and illustrative and FINALLY understanding the sense for enclosures and chromatic approach!! Wow! Can't be thankful enough Mr.Larsen! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and for being such a good teacher. In case you weren't aware about the power of this lessons, let me just tell you that they can make people like me take a giant leap in their playing skills. Thanks!

I look forward to watching your videos everyday even if I don't understand all of it. Would you consider making a beginner's jazz method for someone like me who has experience playing other genres but trying to transition into jazz? I would definitely love to see that in your webstore one day

Thank you! That is really great to hear! I guess I do have some lessons that are geared towards building the knowledge you need to get into jazz. Some of them are a bit old but they are there. If you check out the lesson on diatonic chords and the one on playing a II V I with arpeggioskzbin.info/aero/PLWYuNvZPqqcHcRM5XL8rGFh1Xqkft77Qk And once you can play a bit on the II V I and know a few keys then try the How To Play Jazz Chords and one on a Blues or Blue Bossa? You can ask along the way if something is tricky!

Hello! I'm trying to practice chromatic approaches and enclosures in one of your lessons and at the end you put one (Bb Jazz Blues Lesson 1) for purchase. I have the JAZZ BLUES INTRO PACK that I bought from you some time ago which includes Bb Jazz Blues Lesson 1 and I don't know if it is the same lesson? Also, if you have any lessons you can recommend to me to practice this from the beginning, it might include enclosure exercises for arpeggios and scales. Thank you so much.

Jens, did I understand correctly (I don't understand much, but I have a goal to become a jazz improviser) that chromaticism is needed to connect notes? Or to highlight the right notes?🤔
@JensLarsen
@JensLarsen 3 жыл бұрын
Think of them as colors you can add to your lines to make the. Surprising or interesting 🙂

Great Jens, what do you think about offering online courses for different jazz guitarist levels? These online courses can contain a set of your blog post and KZbin video lessons according to chosen level.
@JensLarsen

Thank you! I am thinking about making something along those lines, but as a subscription thing on my website. A combination of finished lessons, webstore lessons and video exchange for a monthly fee. But it is only an idea until now...

"5432 rhythm" is not what it is its 5432 (which are certain types of phrases) and he is using that on a rhythm bridge. You are misunderstanding the video title... I looked it up when you asked..
