Excellent job. Chroming is ridiculously expensive these days. Maybe due to many processes when doing larger work.

We are based in UK and we make our own chemicals, so you cannot get this particular chrome in US but we can ship to US, and the chrome is included in all our kits.

nickel and zinc can both beplated over those metals. In the case of aluminium, you have to use zinc-eze zincate first and trhis tales some practice. But it results in the aluminium becoming nickel plated (from there you can activate and zinc plate if you want it zinc plated, or leave if you want it nickel plated. steel and cast iron both just need de oxidising and then copper strike then nickel then nickel activate and then your plate of choice the more you go over it the thicker it gets

the shelf life is years for our products. if using our wands then there is no contamination problems caused by brush plating. Only if long term tanking, do you need a lead paroxide anode. for brushing, our regular probes are fine

See below.... Then, after all that, if the gold polish does not bring up the copper to the required shine to match the rest, you would use a buffing machine on that area. Then, when happy, nickel plate over the whole area where the filled scratches are (after nickel activating) and then activate the nickel you have just put on, then chrome plate. Each step is not very long even though it sounds alot to write!!

all you need to plate on iron is copper strike (which we sell), nickel plating solution then nickel activator. Now plate with whatever you wish. Yes the more you plate the thicker and more hardwearing the plate gets The chrome has a regular coverage rate of about 500 square feet per litre

No chrome solution will not ger rid of scratches, for that you would need acid copper to plate in, and a good buffing machine. You would stripe the area of chrome (which would reveal nickel which, i suspect, would also have the scratches in it) and you would nickel activate and then plate over just the scratches with acid copper by brush plating, and quite a thick layer. You would then rinse, and initially rub hard with gold polish (supplied with the kits) and tissue.

forgot to ask: 1/. What is the shelf life of the plating solution. 2/. For brush plating,(I assume the same procedure for other plating kit), if you dip your wand into the solution, then brush the metal to be plated, and dip the wand back into the solution again to pick up additional plating solution, wouldn't that contaminate the solution? and make the life of the solution shorter?

Conductive paint is what you are thinking of, and it doesn't turn out like you would hope it does! t6he MIRROR finish plating is done in factories using abs plastics made by themselves, and an expensive electroless nickel plating onto these special plastics (that you need a factory to make!!!) To do this electroless process on just any given plastic is impossible.

You dip a coin in some liquid and it comes out shiny. What has this got to do with chrome plating?
@lynchjaguar
@lynchjaguar 11 жыл бұрын
all our solutions can be brushed or tank plated, with no visual difference vbetween them. To get a non shiny look with plating, you simply rough up the original finish (if it is shiny) before plating. Or, if the part in question is already dull before plating, it will plate dull. brushing on is generally easier than tank plating, many people get on with brush plating much more Paul tech support Gold solutions.eu

This is the contiuation from my last question due to limited word cannot be posted. 3/. Both zinc and nikel can be plated on a/.Steel b/.Aluminum c/. cast iron? 4/. Can it be plated over again and again to increase the thickness of the plating? 5/. How many ml(solution) will cover the size of a valve cover?(rough ball park number ok)

sorry so long without a reply!!Yes metal items can be chromed or rechromed....if it is a case of RE_chroming it, then the nickel will already be in place for you to simply buff up (if needed) and then activate and chrome plate. Our kits come with nickel and chrome and chrome stripper and activators and polishing creams and all that you would need (gs500 and gs200 and gs90 kits)Paul

@irondice5183
@irondice5183 3 жыл бұрын
@@Regdiggs On the video I start with a gold plated coin because it shows the contrast better. I brush the chrome on at 5.5v ( you have to be sure the plating machine has at least a 2 amp output ability) Any black lines that form where the brushing stops, get erased if you brush over them, but you always leave a black line when you stop so it is a case of just going over and over enough to ensure enough thickness to be able to take a bit of a buffing afterwards without wearing through the plate. Then use an abrasive cream polish and the black bits quickly buff out to reveal shiny chrome The chrome will only be as shiny as the part is to begin with If going over nickel you would need to activate and electrockean first then do as above

@@irondice5183 other than polishing it what would I need to do to prepare a regular steel surface to be chrome plated
@irondice5183
@irondice5183 3 жыл бұрын
@@Regdiggs typically speaking you would need to electroclean, stainless steel activate, heavy copper strike followed by heavy plate in electroforming copper which creates its own mirror shine and rounds off the edges giving that deep chrome reflective quality. Then plate in nickel followed by nickel activator then chrome

Why have you painted a standard British 10 pence piece coin gold, just to simply clean it up and return it to its original silver colour ?? These coins are made of cupronickel and consist of 75% copper and 25 nickel, which makes them completely silver in appearance !

I want to buy a kit to rust proof the car parts in my engine and I have these questions: 1/. I don't want it to be super shiny, just want to either plate it with nickel or zinc to give a normal(no so shinny like chrome look), how well does nicket or zinc protect againist rust in engine part(external surface) and how well do they stand againist the heat of the engine. 2/. How well does it work if I choose to brush it on?(so I don't have to take out the part and dip it in the solutions?

i own a trophy shop, and i want to make some custom trophy toppers preferably with the same finish as the 'factory' toppers. i would likely make the toppers out of resin. would this or similar processes provide those results?
@lynchjaguar
@lynchjaguar 10 жыл бұрын
You can plate over resin with conductive paint, followed by a thick plate with acid copper, then you buff that acid copper shell to a shine. How shiny you can get it is determined by how thick you plate and how good your buffing skills are. It is harder to get a good quality shine on non conductive items...with metal items, you polish the metal and then plate it, with the ORIGINAL metal supplying the shine (which the plate copies)..... with non conductive, YOU create the shine and that is more tricky in generalPaul
@ryanbarker5217
@ryanbarker5217 10 жыл бұрын
thanks for the info. :) i may have search a little harder to find a less time/material method and/or different material. for a couple of items, this process might work fine, but maybe not so much for the potential hundreds of toppers i might be called to make, eh? just trying to see what processes are out there, what kind of time and cost i'm looking at and the end results.
@lynchjaguar
@lynchjaguar 10 жыл бұрын
If you have your trophies made out of polished stainless steel, that would be possibly the quickest and easiest to plate.You could tank plate them with the gs500 And depending on their size, you may even be able to tank plate more than one at once. In both cases, much faster than brush plating them.
@ryanbarker5217
@ryanbarker5217 10 жыл бұрын
the modern toppers are plastic and i'm not sure how they get the gold or silver 'chrome' on them. my initial idea is to do them in resin barring some other better, but reasonable to achieve, product. yes, tank plating would be ideal, just dip and dry if that's possible. these would be custom sculpts of local school teams, so i'm looking for a process and product that can (hopefully) yield me a couple of hundred toppers as quickly as possible, and do them for under $2 my cost. not asking for much, am i? thanks again for your help. :)
@lynchjaguar
@lynchjaguar 10 жыл бұрын
well you can certainly PLATE them for less than $2, but I would say having them made out of resin is out if you want to go down the route of plating them.Even if you get them made out of copper or brass etc, as long as they are shiny, then the other plating solutions needed to put gold onto either copper or brass are included in our full plating kits anyway, and add basically no extra cost to the actual plating process.Modern plastic tropies, if they are chrome plated (the manufacturer would tell you) then THESE are no problem for you, despite being MADE of plastic. Simply strip off the chrome with the supplied chrome stripper, underneath WILL be nickel which is conductive and you can gold plate directly onto and have gold as shiny as the chrome was. So I would find out from the trophy manufacturer if they have actually been electroplated in real chrome or not- and hope that they have.....or else you would need to look at having metal trophies made Paul

If you brush the chrome om, will it be as thick and durable as when dibbed? And can it be done to an entire car bumper?
@lynchjaguar
@lynchjaguar 9 жыл бұрын
Casper Michelsen there is no difference in durability between brushing and tanking, the only difference that exists between the two methods is that when tanking, plating happens everywhere at once, in brushing, it happens only in one area at a time (the area you are concentrating on)....the actual science behind the actual plating when it happens, in both cases, is exactly the same. tanking however DOES allow you to guage exactly how thick you have gone via various formulas and tables that you can calculate by, where brushing makes it virtually impossible to say with any degree of accuracy exactly how many microns (though the same amount of microns is achievable, just harder to know when you have achieved it) but generally people who brush have put on a thicker layer than they think anyway. In decorative plating (like chrome plating etc) the EXACT thickness is rarely important anyway

no, heat does not cause flaking...that is caused by poor nickel plating beforehand. It is the thick nickel which can peel...the chrome cannot peel from the nickel. And in any case..heat does not cause the nickel to peel...poor preparation does Paul
