Chromecast with Google TV - Is It Worth It?

I just got my Chromecast with Google TV and I must say, it's 1,000 times better than the original Chromecast. For me, the most impressive feature so far is that this device has Bluetooth built in. It will allow you to use Bluetooth devices like keyboards as well as earbuds/headphones and the headphones sound awesome! Also, if you subscribe to Google TV, then you will get another header on the main screen entitle "Live" which will take you instantly to the current Live TV channel lineup.

Was an Apple TV user for years but hated the entire Apple experience being a android user forever. The Apple TV box gave me a streaming service that was smooth and sort of customizable, however their security and login issue made working with that box such a pain and all the other android boxes were limited in what they did even Chromecast. Now I just purchased this new unit and can I say simply its been a life saver and the rest need to lift their games as this unit will be the benchmark now for the coming years. Its intuitive sets up as easy as plugging it in and this will suit those that are technologically challenged all they need is a google account. Yes sir I totally agree with you..I myself have all the firesticks, cube and fire tv plus a Nvidia Sheild which is a BEAST different topic and story 4 another day..LoL..But I've been with KZbin TV since the beginning at that time they gave me a chrome cast 2 use...just last week I was contacted by Google 2 have the newest chrome cast Google tv 4 free 4 being a loyal customer. I received it December 18th and have been using it ever since next 2 my Nvidia. I got 2 say 4 such a little guy I recommend buying it before a Amazon fire product any day.

Great review, I agree with you, I bought one and liked it so well I bought two more to replace all my Roku Ultras, CCwGTV is much faster and more responsive. I can even tell my Google Home devices to turn on or off the bedroom TV or whichever TV they are attached to and on or off it goes. Can also use the google or nest home devices to launch different apps as well. There also is a Android TV remote in the Google Play Store for Android phones or tablets. Thanks again for the review.

The CCGTV has a killer UI but lacks the necessary storage to run the 10 apps I use. Purchased two of these in early ‘22 and started having freezing issues a few weeks later.

It won't work with echo because that's a direct competitor. You can use the assistant through the remote or anything else with the assistant (your phone, a mini, a hub, etc)

Listen up everyone.. facts coming your way! If you just want a capable streaming device that plays netflix, and your other favs with simple play pause and that's it then this is a 5 star product. If you want a Google devices that interacts with other Google owned products like nest cameras, or need thermostats, or chromecast as easy is the original chromecast, or lastly (name another Google product) and use this device to communicate well? Then move along cause this device is trash. My biggest issue that means truly the world to me is I have 4 nest cameras 5 Google minis, 2 chromecast audios, 2 nest hubs, 1 nest thermostat, 1 Google home (original), 3 Chromecasts, 2 TV's with Chromecast built in and now this Google TV chromecast and if you would think owning them all would grant me a piece of mind that they all would work seemlessly together then you would be hugely mistaken. This Google chromecast with Google TV does not come with nest app or even the home app to view cameras (1 is my nursery camera) and that's super disappointing. As a tech said, "you can voice cast" the camera but that reliability is terrible. Try saying "hey google, cast nest nursery camera to..." Or other commands, 5% of the time you will get the nest camera you want, 95% of the time KZbin will pop up KZbin videos of nest nursery cameras. OMG Please Google, I beg you, make all your devices work better with each other so your ecosystem is more enjoyable. Your ecosystem could be so great if only all your devices worked in harmony the way consumers need them to.

wow - that is disappointing given how much u have vested in the Google ecosystem! I was happy our Nest thermostat worked then realized there is a bug if you try to change the temp in heat/cool mode - it only works if it is in heat or cool mode. doh. this can be fixed through software fortunately and hope many of yr issues can be as well 🙏

I have a Chromecast which is probably 3 years old, I have problems with when I'm watching utube or something on Australian iview etc. It stops and has msg "loading", would upgrading fix this. My main driver is the Apple TV 4K which I have on my main TV. But I also have FireTV Sticks on that as well as all my other TVs. I absolutely hate the FireTV interface and already have two of the new Chromecasts with Google TV. I just love the interface and the fact that it makes suggestions outside of the apps themselves. Plus I have KZbin TV and their guide is built right into Google TV and makes the experience much more seamless. I still love my Apple TV 4K, especially the "Watch Now" feature that suggests the next episode of a show or movies you have in progress. But this new Chromecast with Google TV has come a long way and makes it very close. I'm using this as my main driver for over a week now and I must say that I absolutely love it! Thanks for such a great video!

For my 2 pennies I am actually enjoying my GTV more than my Apple 4K TV...not sure why but I do like the picture even on my 1080p. Like what HiFi said it has a very clinical picture quality which were my thoughts too and even 1080p is very well detailed. UI is decent and smooth too and an bit more interesting than the Apple UI imo. Another very nice surprise is the audio sound quality over Bluetooth, it really is very, very good. I have a Bluetooth receiver connected to my amp which picks up all codecs from SBC to LDAC and whatever the GTV is operating on it is very good. It's clean, clear and detailed and easily listened to. I compared it to Amazon HD via Topping E30 DAC at 192khz and through the same amp and in all honesty which ever codec it is it's very close to that quality on my system. For £59....I mean, shut up!

Bit of a shame that only Netflix (as far as I know) only supports Dolby Vision. Disney+, Prime, etc. only stream in HDR. So I often have to switch to the apps on my smart TV to take advantage of Dolby vision on other services that aren’t Netflix.

HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 Heads up everybody the new hardware does not support Dolby digital sound. Well at least not for me I tried everything to get it to work and nothing happen. If you smart people out there know how to fix this and actually read my message please let me know because I am going crazy. When I cast my phone to the Chromecast Google TV I get all the Great Sound I want. But when I play the show from the actual Google TV I get PCM only. I tried every setting every idea I looked up for the forums nothing is out there and please somebody pray to God somebody needs this message and can help me out. @@KJAlways I bought the google tv and yes that is how it works, you can even sideload apps from different places than the Google play store and it works perfectly. You can even program the google tv remote to control your LG tv and many others.

I bought 2 for Christmas gifts this year. I also have Android TV (although it's an older version currently) on my Sony X90CH and LOVE it. After YEARS waiting for Bixby to get a brain, it was a breath of fresh air having a voice assistant that actually works! I can ask for even obscure band and song names, and it figures out what I said contextually! You can actually see it "think" as it tries to figure out what you said. Neat! Also, unlike Roku, I have never heard of an app or channel being delisted from Chromecast or Android. Roku seems to have that problem every other week, with one channel or another getting in a financial dispute and pulling their content. The deal sealer is the price. With Apple TVs being $179 or more, Chromecast at $50 is the cheapest fully functional 4k streaming solution on the market. Many will buy one based on that alone! Fortunately, aside from being cheap, it's also a joy to use. BTW, the addition of an AppleTV app means that it will be a great solution for Apple users as well!

yes - glad to see Apple TV+ not be a dealbreaker! my dad w ESL is always challenged by voice assistants (speaking to u Siri and let's not get into how useless the assistant is on Roku!) He is actually starting to use Google Assistant - he used it to pull up favorite artists on Spotify! while I am an apple fan boy - I'm happy to defer an Apple TV purchase for a few years. I was disappointed the new Apple TV doesn't have an M chip. when this happens, $200 will be more than worth it!

You have extremely nice review but I couldn’t find what I’m looking for. Example, if I connect this to a projector, is it possible during casting, you can split the sound to output in a Bluetooth Home Theater instead of projector sound output? I have connectivity issue in my home. The home theater is in front and the projector at the back. Using 3.5mm jack wired will not give you Dolby Atmos Surround quality. My projector has only 3.5mm jack and AV options which both of them are not surround sound. My only hope this device can split the video and audito into its Bluetooth. Is it worth it? YES. Hands down. 4K, Dolby Atmos, Google Stadia for $50. For gaming though I am thinking of buying the Ethernet plug in, my internet is average 200/50mbps which is blazing fast but when streaming and playing, I noticed the game would freeze for a couple of secs then rebuff - the rebuff though is so fast it’s almost unnoticeable I have all 3 colors for 3 TVs because I don’t want to use a living room remote for the bedroom TV.

@8:37 is anyone else getting abysmal performance w the Prime Video app? it takes *forever* to load a video over a 200 Mbit connection. what is suspect is while the screen is black, sometimes some German text blips by and it goes back to black before finally loading in English. while I don't know for sure, it's like it's trying to connect to German Amazon servers first? anyone have any insight into this given all our other apps like KZbin & Netflix work just fine?!

Android has far more experience in designing software services and ui/ux design so it is to be expected that an android tv os will feel better than other tv os even if you can't particularly put your finger on what makes you like it so much. I have used the firetv at my friends place a lot and it always feels like I can't find anything interesting to watch and almost everything I click on seems to be buy/rent content. I noticed after you said it that they push their own content first before recommending content from other streaming services that I already have subscriptions for. Google tv just feels so much better.

4K Content is running pretty well. Depending on your Internet Speed it is loading fast. I watched some 4K Videos, Films and there were no freezes.

I was pleased to see we were getting connection speeds of 150-250 Mbit while watching 4k videos. our Roku Premiere+ couldn't even break 50 Mbit over the same network (not to mention KZbin broke on us! which I think is a secret scheme by Google...lol)

Fire tv do the same.. it recommends shows out side of amazon prime based on your watch history.
