G'day from Sydney Australia, got mine yesterday and installed it today, it's bloody awesome and easy to use only complain I have is the remote, I find it a little to smooth and is a bit slippery on the hand,wish it had some kind of texture on the bottom, great review mate 🍻👍

I'm happy google has released the genuine ethernet adaptor on their store. Big improvement in speed and stability despite the wifi being 6 feet away.4k is much better and Steam link works well over ethernet too. Tried a Belkin usbC hub with power pass through but it would NOT allow the power through.

The new Apple TV 4k white siri remote is awesome. Apple remote's touchpad allows me to quickly move from app to app (or movie to movie) faster than any other remote that use the ancient arrow keys. OTHER PROS: - Apple is way faster than my other streamers like builtin SONY, Amazon firestick, Google Chromecast, Roku. - I can mirror my iPhone onto the tv. - kids can mirror their macbooks (example: in the 2021 Tokyo olympics, it was easy to find a sports event using the macbook and mirror it to the tv)

I was immediately disappointed I’m afraid. Interface felt clunky and unrefined and the remote felt cheap. I was so hoping to love it. I really like my Apple TV but I hate the KZbin app on there compared to the one on Roku and Chromecast/google. I just don’t like the rest of the experience enough to switch. Keeping an eye on it though.

I find it incredibly easy and simple. Install the apps you need and organise them in order of preference. It takes barely seconds to switch between apps etc.

What I hope you cover at 6 months is just how cheap and poorly designed the remote is. I really love the platform and device, but the remote is garbage. I took an older remote from a Walmart Onn Android TV box I had and paired it to the new Chromecast device, and what a huge improvement in build quality and ergonomics that was. Google needs to completely re-think and redesign the remote for this device.

Not officially, the Google TV responds that it's not available when you do a voice search for it. You might be able to sideload it.

Yes, they can turn on and off the TV. You just have to have a tv that's new enough that includes HDMI CEC.

Yes, it's based on android, so the play store is there and you can download third party apps

Google TV is the newer version of Android TV, so you can install quite a few different apps on it and even sideload apps on it.

No information about how compatible it is with Android TV or even much of a mention about installing apps on this device. Pretty sure this is one of the most interesting things with this device if you can install Plex and Kodi, like on Android TV machines, but nothing like this was mentioned. Guess I have to go elsewhere to get better information on this hardware than on this channel. At least for now...

I am also visually impaired, and I own one of these. In the accessibility settings there’s a feature called talk back. When you navigate it will speak what’s on the screen.

Finding it quite buggy so far. The QR code during setup just didn't work and I tried multiple apps, multiple shots, even creating an image and uploading though - no joy at all. Also, Dolby Atmos appears broken in Disney+ and 4K does not work in that app unless you have HDR activated on your display too. I have a non-HDR 4K which means Disney will never play in 4K. My projector is 4K HDR will work though - this bug is probably Disney's fault as this happens on Roku too. Other bugs - occasionally I get a blank screen which appears to be loading the "for me" section but it can take a while. The remote volume buttons are not very responsive and the input button, when connected to my Sony amp, does not change the inputs, it activates some other menu option. When browsing for films, there is an option for "free" (i.e. services you are subscribed too) but it can't tell the difference between Prime videos and paid-for videos. Another thing I'd like to see is easier browsing of 4K material (like the thumbnails being tagged). And last thing the Apple TV will hopefully come soon so I can access my purchases.

Just a heads up, this piece of junk doesn't automatically play your videos when you use your google home devices to ask it to play something. I can't believe they actually DOWNGRADED chromecast's functionality. It was one of the best things ever being able to just ask for a show or movie, ask to turn off the lights, and enjoy yourself.

It's works just no volume up and down. You have to do that manually on the monitor itselfs.

So what about the basic features of the previous Chromecast? Like if me and my sister use different Netflix accounts attached to different emails, can we just cast them to the TV from the phone, like on the original Chromecast? Or do we need to add 2 separate Netflix accounts to Google TV. And would that be possible? And does casting from the phone still work the way it used to? Like casting from any streaming apps, music apps, Google Photos, or just sharing my phone screen.

Yep, most all the functionality we tested that we did with the older Chromecasts works on this one, even turning the TV off using the Google Assistant. Casting from a phone still works the same way.

The Live Channels implementation on this device is incomplete and poor (unlike on my Nvidia Shield TV). I use Live Channels to watch OTA TV (coming from my HDHomeRun) on my Nvidia Shield TV. You can install the Live Channels app (with difficulty), but it doesn't appear in your apps list, and you can't put it there. You can do a voice search to launch it, but it should appear in the apps list. Maybe Google is planning on implementing this somehow with the Live tab (which we see if you have YourTube TV). This seems like a work in progress (like most Google products).

But does it cast without wifi or phone data? I want to cast my Google movie purchases saved on my phone to a device connected to the tv at the cottage. There's no wifi or cell service but sometimes I just want to watch an evening movie. I've tried roku, chromecast and Nvidia Shield tv with an old phone set up as a wifi hotpot and still can't get it to cast. I purchased the previous generation Chromecast because I was told it would do this but as it turns ou,t it does not.

It supports 4K 60hz, HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. There is a problem with older LG tvs that might cause it to not recognize 4K 60 which might be the case here.

Yeah our setup likely doesn't support 4k 60hz so that's why the Chromecast didn't list it out.
