@@caterinaaaaaa Yeah, it's really weird when not even hospital staff understand the meaning of chronic... I was at a day ward in a psychiatric hospital (I have bipolar, ADHD and other chronic things for 20+ years), and I talked about how happy I was that my doctor that's so good is still young, because then I can have her for a long time of my life. I was planning my future and feeling secure with her by my side. The stupid nurse at the day ward was instead saying: "Oh, don't think you're gonna need someone for the rest of your life. Let's not hope that, let's be positive." I didn't even know what to say, so I was just quiet and got anxiety and eventually walked away. It was 3 years ago, but I still remember it. Like... What part about chronic, incurable illnesses didn't he understand? Just because I LOOK okay when I'm around people, because I make a tremendous EFFORT, it doesn't mean my problems go away. Eventually I had to stop going to the day ward, because I got too tired from it, being there 3 times a week. Didn't have enough spoons to endure my treatment, which is ironic. And still I don't have anything physically wrong with me, it's the fatigue from my mental disorders. I hate being too ill to access treatment, it's absolutely not the first nor the last time... 🙁

When I have the hearing thing, I find it surprisingly easy to say "Sorry, my brain refused to process that. Could you try again?" For some reason that changes the way the person repeats it exactly the way my brain needs to get it, and the person is happy to help. The "how are you" thing for me always seems to be the nurses who ask. My most common response is "I made it in!" or "Hanging in there, you?" I used to hate that question with a passion, but over time I've come up with a lot of humorous but honest responses. Oh gosh, the nightstand being a pharmacy is so true. I can't always physically get to the bathroom when I need my pills, so putting them in the bathroom is just not an option. So symptoms, simple timeline, things tried & reactions, and where i think any of my other illnesses may intersect. This is usually 2-3 sides of A4. This is gratefully received by 90% of my doctors (but not my current neurologist whom I'm in the process of replacing). This is my top tip whenever you see a doctor. It makes their life easier, means you don't have to worry about forgetting something, and definitely eases some of the anxiety too. ❤💛💚💜💙

More than anything else, that invalidates everything you say about being in pain and needing help, and reduces it to the idea that you just lack the wisdom to think about your problems the right way, or that there is a drug you can take to turn you into a happy zombie that doesn't care about being disabled any more.

Chronic illness is hard to deal with and oftentimes having someone to work with who is always there to listen can be good- especially since the people in our lives often aren’t understanding. Depression is also a common issue, and while it may not be the best for everyone, having someone there to help you strategise and develop good management / habits / mentality can be really really good. Perhaps that’s more of a counselling / coaching thing but nonetheless… I’m saying this as someone who both has chronic illness (chronic pain + hyper mobility + fatigue….) and who believes that therapy is something most people need- but especially people with real issues in their life. Mentality can be everything in terms of quality of life. Not saying it will get rid of symptoms- it won’t- but it can help you to cope better.

When someone asks me how I'm doing, now I saw "could be better, could be worse".

Hi Izzy! I've been really enjoying your videos recently, they are super informative & I hope you are well!! I am going to an appointment soon to try to diagnose my issues and there has been specific talk about it being EDS but they are still super unsure (even after nearly 9 years). Do you think it would beneficial to take a document with what I think is going on or linking some of my symptoms to certain criteria ect.. it's getting to the point where I am so frustrated with not getting help and feeling ill :( thank you for any help!!

Went to the doctor today to get a referral to an EDS specialist. The experience was bad, just like everyone before. They all looked at me like some kind of circus freak because I'm pigeon towed, look like a child at the age to 21 and have severe scoliosis making me shorter. only for the doctor to come in and just look shocked at the fact, I have to literally relocate my shoulders, elbows, and wrists, every couple of minuets. I refuse to take pain pills because my parents, as a result of EDS are both pill addicts. NOT TO MENTION! they could not get my blood pressure at all. I explained, I had the same problem when I was hospitalized at 16, maybe if they used a child blood pressure machine or the automatic reader they might be able to get it, to no success. my fiance and I spent thirty minuets in the examination room with me about to vomit, waiting to hear about a placed referral, to find out the hospital they thought had an EDS wing, didn't in fact have one. Still waiting for that but let's just cross our fingers and hope. I'm just struggling because the pains been so tremendous my whole life and its only getting worse. I'm so very tired.

Lol 😂 these made me day. Thank you Izzy. AMD also for explaining some. It was refreshing. You are right, we will always be genetically programmed with our DNA to recreate this faulty collagen protein (s). My guess is until the DNA can be reprogrammed to create the good protein collagen, then we will continue to reproduce faulty collagen. My understanding is that by reproducing faulty non-bonding collagen leads to surgery complications. That’s my story anyway. How can I email you privately. It’s difficult to text lol

I know it's not actually the reason, but I have POTS, and once caused a blood pressure machine (with the thighten-y thing) to get an error twice in a row.

Yes, I purposely "disassociate" mind and body too. It's a coping mechanis.

The "I have a chronic illness" and people shouting "health" advice at you is so accurate. It's one of my favourite memes, it makes me both laugh and grind my teeth every time I see it (which is not a good combo for my jaw , lol). I do yoga and it helps though , I just need to be careful and I don't go to group classes anymore because it's too tedious to explain to the teacher that no, I can't sit like that because my labrum will tear and I can't twist this way because then my meniscus will tear and I can't stay in inversions because my neck, my stomach, my blood pressure... But I love yoga. Ahah. The worst was "Have you tried cold showers/ice baths or going swimming in ice-cold water? There are so many health benefits". I'm allergic to cold , I'd love to add anaphylactic shock to my list of issues, thank you.

"Have you considered getting tapeworms?" is one I've got for MS. Imagine my surprise when a doctor reccomended hookworms years down the line because that was the one person who had advice rooted in a muddled understanding of the science. Turns out the one thing my immune system and I are on the same page about is that gut parasites must die first 😂

Hey anyone reading this! I am going to a geneticist soon to get tested for EDS/HEDS and I’m kinda nervous and I was just wondering if anyone could kinda of tell me what to expect? Thank you!

So I am not diagnosed with Gastroparesis but am wondering if the scan that diagnoses it would change any of the things I'm already doing? We are trying some different foods and am on two different medications. I was wondering if you could give some insight, as all cases are different. Thank you!!
@IzzyKDNA5 жыл бұрын
it's so dependent on the person. but if you have a gastroparesis diagnosis then they might try you on different medications that increase motility. they could also try other forms of nutrition if youre struggling to keep up. knowing whats wrong is super important in gastropresis so u can have targeted treated

I'm 44 in a week and a veteran at this ish 😁 1:35 I have Auditory Processing Disorder which is where my hearing is fine but many brain doesn't process things correctly so this is totally me - I have to lip read, have subs on tv and use context to make educated guesses as to what they're saying. I've had it all my life but was only diagnosed in my late 30s, as a kid I was told I just wasn't concentrating. Incurable, obviously, like all my shit but kinda manageable :/ Then in my late teens I got Fibromyalgia which compounded the problem then in my early 30s M.E as well - so yeah I'm a riot at parties 😂 and that's not even half of my medical issues lol! So please look into APD and see if any of the coping strategies help you 🙂 And if all else fails just tell people you have an issue - my friends know it's a brain thing but acquaintances or shop clerks just get told I have hearing issues if I have to explain my not understanding them, as everyone understands that and it makes life easier 🙂❤
