From 1939 to 1941, fortune smiles upon the German forces. Whether in Poland, France, the Baltics, Belarus, or Ukraine, the tactics of the blitzkrieg appear successful. The Third Reich lasted for 12 years, 3 months and 9 days. It began with great hopes and unprecedented jubilation and ended after a world war in which 50 million people were killed and Germany was destroyed.

There are so many documentaries of this type and yet I like watching them all because each one will have little details that the others don't. It's just amazing that a country as civilized as Germany, the place to be if you were a scientist or an artist or a poet etc., should have fallen into such barbarity.
@FreeDocumentaryHistory9 ай бұрын
I agree with you - each documentary has a slightly different slant/take/a new detail. It’s quite amazing there is always something new to discover. Thank you for stopping by and leaving such an insightful comment.

Great documentary but I have to call you out on one thing. 47:56 - Goering wasn't merely aware of "any wrong doing", he was a key instigator of the Holocaust. Perhaps he CLAIMED to be unaware, but in reality he was extremely aware, and in favour of, the atrocities.
@FreeDocumentaryHistory9 ай бұрын
of course he was “aware” he was one of the architects of the holocaust.

so what did he instigate? goering was described as the least hateful of the top figures, and even pulled strings for a few of his jewish friends and other jews that were friends with his friends/family. He had no hand in any management or building of the camps, what exactly did he do that was so evil?

There is a British naval cemetery on the island of Ocracoke, North Carolina. British ship was sunk and the bodies washed ashore. Locals gave them a proper burial and the cemetery is honorary British soil.

Stalin INVADED Poland from the East. On 17 September 1939, the Soviet Union invaded Poland from the east, 16 days after Nazi Germany invaded Poland from the west. Subsequent military operations lasted for the following 20 days and ended on 6 October 1939 with the two-way division and annexation of the entire territory of the Second Polish Republic by Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. This division is sometimes called the Fourth Partition of Poland. The Soviet (as well as German) invasion of Poland was indirectly indicated in the "secret protocol" of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact signed on 23 August 1939, which divided Poland into "spheres of influence" of the two powers.

Very intriguing to see how Hitler proclaimed Heiss as delusional ☺️ something many would say about Hitler years afterward. I think both were delusional as to Heiss plan to appeal such negotiation with British, but at least he was one of the few of Fuhrer inner circle who had a sense of what to come with two fronts war & that Hitler had stepped out too far at that time, at that stage.

Why don't you mention that Ribbentrop also concluded an agreement in August 1939 on the division of Poland between the Third Reich and the USSR. And the Red Army entered the Polish border on September 17

A phrase coined by South Africans during the Anglo Boer War 1899 to 1902 after the battle of Spionkop...here is a rendition of the speech of General Louis Botha commanding Boer forces after they began to fall back and give way...Gen Botha rode up on his horse and called to his men..Do you know who you're fighting??..these men you're fighting fighting have travelled 7000miles and they fight for a queen..You men here are fighting for your homes your families you're fighting for your farms for the land indeed you're fighting for your country..with that the Boer rallied and returned into the fray...of course we claim victory because the Brits sounded the retreat and we're routed however the boers also retreated so oh dear it was indeed a stalemate..the Brits were poorly led as usual and would pay a heavy price and the phrase came into being when it was said the Brits were brave and fought like lions but were led by donkeys Dennys Ruyts Boer commando fighter in his memoirs...another interesting thing was three important figures were at that battle..Louis Botha the first President of the Union...Mahatma Ghandi that old soul with a beauty of vision and faith that led India to freedom and last but not least Sir Winston Churchill and well how different things might have been if either of them had been killed that day...hope you enjoyed this little bit of history and thanks for that comment 😊
