I am happy to see Etim again in good health speaking with honesty and giving advise to the younger generations about discipline. Happy to see you Etim. Our football hero then. I didn't see this interview on time, anyway. Your analysis about our super eagles is correct. There is no more co-ordination in the midfield any longer for a very long time now. And without a solid midfield no team does well.

Before Jay Jay Okocha, there was Etim Esin! I used to skip classes and ran out of school to watch the 1987 Chile bound Flying Eagles train morning and evening. Etim Esin, Thompson Oliha, Adeolu Adekola, John Okon, Ladi Babalola, Nduka Ugbade, Ikpowosa Omoregie and others. The 1987 Under 20 Chile world cup squad was loaded with such much talents. But Etim Esin was the favorite and the star player. Our own African Maradona! He was so good, his ball control and techniques was on the highest level. You have to foul Etim before you can take the ball away from him. For his career to end the way it ended, was a great tragic. I always imagined Etim Esin in the Nigerian 1994 world cup squad. I was shedding tears and at the same time full of admiration for the great memories of joy and happiness Etim Esin talent and football skills was able give us in a very short career. May God continue to bless you Etim. 🙏

I acknowledge Etim Essien's candour, especially his acknowledgement of the disciplinary lapses that hindered his career advancement. He is undoubtedly one of Nigeria's most talented footballers. His journey is worthy of documentation, serving as a valuable lesson in humility. May he continue to receive divine guidance and make wise choices. Remain, blessed Big brother, Esin!

Etim Esin sure was a baller! I'm glad he took blame for how his playing days ended and there is no bitterness whatsoever in him, but rather gratitude for over coming all the travails he encountered. Thanks for the fond memories, African Maradona and thank God for keeping you.

I get emotional anytime I listen to bro Etim talking about his mistakes. What ended his career was not even real, but that the way Black stars are destroyed on flimsy grounds. Elegbete, I always glorify God for making me see Etim Esin live between 1984 to 1987. I had seen Haruna Ilerika and Henry Nwosu in the 70s,/early 80s, but believe me, Etim was in a different class altogether. I lived in Calabar in 1984, so I saw Etim, his senior brother at UNICAL and John Ene Okon at very close range. My sadness is that the institutional gap that exposed Etim, an 18 year old kid to navigate a life of affluence without professional guidance, is still there today. If you give a Ferrari SF90 to a teenager today, he will behave exactly like Etim. So, the NFF especially need to look more into protecting young talents from the instincts that come with fame. Etim was never the same again after that gunshot.

This Etim Esin's story is truly touching, especially when he spoke about missing the opportunity to represent Nigeria in the World Cup against Argentina and play against the legendary Maradona. It's a stark reminder that indiscipline can have severe consequences, costing us precious opportunities. As Etim Esin reflected on his career, he highlighted indiscipline as a major pitfall, emphasizing that it can deceive us into thinking we can get away with anything, only to pay dearly for it later. His words serve as a cautionary tale, especially for younger generations. It's interesting to note that when Nigeria faced Argentina, Jay-Jay Okocha became Nigeria's own Maradona, showcasing exceptional skills and talent. However, Etim Esin's regret remains a powerful lesson: if we don't manage our gifts and opportunities well, they can be taken away and be replaced.

Etim Esin and Okocha are the most talented footballers that ever came out of Nigeria. He was a tank, very strong and Cameroonians feared him. The guy was good enough to win the world footballer if he continued the way he started. But parties and flamboyant life plus very rude press conferences. I remember him saying, Nigerians leave me alone , shebi I have won your match for you, I think after he scored against Cameroon.

@@VikingPremier No problem with your opinion. Both were accomplished players and Nigerians should be proud of them. To me Etim was raw talent, powerful like Maradona. He terrorised any defence. He didn’t play for long to showcase his talent. From what I watched Etim could have got a shout in the ballon dior. He was that good, bro. As he admitted honestly he made mistakes. The mistakes should not take out the recognition of his talent. I hope the govt can engage with to spread his talent, experience and knowledge. I followed old generation football, Etim stood out. Before Okocha, to me the most talented footballer!

An excellent perspective from Esin. He is 100% right on Osimehen whom I don't rate at all; and on Balotelli. Iwobi too is a very average but over rated player who in years past couldn't have been good enough to play for the Super Eagles. I am so pleased though that Etim remembered and recognised my old Ira primary school friend, Rashidi Boolu Yekini. May Rashidi continue to RIP.
