Hello. These are punchbowrds with extra components with no illustrations. Weapons monsters etc. You don't purchase them. You draw your own illustrations on them, invent powers and add them with the rest of components. Get a feel of how your components affect the game.

The game is hard enough as it is, sounds like the expansion makes the game impossible now.

You get expansions when you want to add variety to your game. If you feel that the moon monster is too hard then go for the scenarios or simply add combinations of the 3 modes. Not always, but I win the core game's beast quite often. I havent played against the moon monster but I believe that it is beatable at least in easy difficulty level. It surely is more funny. I got the expansion for the campaign scenarios because eventually you will want sth different than simply protecting your castle.

No talk of value? $40 Canadian seems a little expensive for this little addition.

This video is for introducing new features and not a full review of every aspect. I dont know how much 40 Cad is, but Boardgames in general have gone up a lot and this makes getting games after proper research essential. In comparison to Avel core game price, yes you are right, but only because tge core game was rather cheap.
