Chrono Trigger: 2300 AD - L+R+A Problem

I had this problem on OpenEmu and read some forums saying the problem is that a computer keyboard can't register two keys at the same time. Then I had a clever idea. Set either L or R to one of your shift keys. Since shift is always used in combination with another key, I just used Shift+2 (since I had L and R set to 1 and 2 respectively) and it worked perfectly! This is by far the easiest solution to this problem.

okey dokey since i've read some comments asking how to do this in android emulator here's a little tip : on DraStic emulator open the chrono trigger game, go to "edit Screens and Virtual Pad" select "portrait" (or any layout you're using), choose "menu" then "edit controller layout" aaaaaaand move the R button, slide it that it overlaps the A button, choose "apply", choose "menu" again, choose "save for current game" and back to game. next just press L along with the overlapped A/R button in front of right console (the shining blue stone) and voila! you're welcome

For those who play on Android (especially in snes9x ex) I recommend that you change the buttons and put them in volume rocker

I was kinda confused since this was never ever an issue for me, until I realized it's because on some keyboards, key combinations that belong to the same "group" of keys (like Q and W for example) don't get registered and read at the same time.

It's a hardware limitation of most inexpensive and laptop keyboards, that specific combinations of usually nearby key clusters can not be reliably detected when pressed together. Only 2 alphanumeric keys are guaranteed to be reliably registered together (plus two modifier keys), but up to 9 can work. See Deskauthority article on Blocking and Ghosting to read up on the engineering reason for this, and find a "Keyboard Ghosting Demonstration" page to determine which keys work together without issues.

Key mappings.Scroll down and select Button A.When it says Press a hardware key, press one that doesn't already cause a change of state in the app (don't choose home or "menu buttons.) I went with the volume down button. 4) Go back to the game, and stand in front of the sparkling panel where you need to enter the password 5) Keep a finger on both the L and R "keys" on the on-screen keyboard, and then hit the physical volume down button (or whatever button you chose in the key mappings interface.)

i have an emulator with possible multitouch on my phone, but my phone doesn't support multitouch. setting L + R + A all to the same phone button helped to open the passage.

If you're using a gamepad, make sure you didn't map L and R to analog triggers, depending on the controller they might share one axis which results in a neutral axis position when you hold them both down at once = no button pressed

i never had problems before using zsnes ,i play on an xbox controller and had this issue recently ,i prefer L2 and R2 to do the job of the snes buttons(L1 R1)buttons ,as soon as i changed the buttons to the correct ones the issue was resolved......seems a bit strange really.

For ANDROID USERS SNES9X EX EMULATOR. GO TO KEY/GAMEPAD SETUP. Go TO QPNP_PON. FOR R,L,A CLICK ON THOSE AND CONNECT THEM ALL TO THE VOLUME DOWN BUTTON and what I did was for L you push the volume down button on your phone twice and it will show up....DO THE SAME FOR THE REST and for the rest of the buttons it will give you a YES OR NO.....PRESS NO FOR THE NEXT TWO BUTTONS and it should say VOL down for ALL THOSE BUTTONS. IT WORKED FOR ME 100%. The Video user didn't help but I appreciate what he did in getting the people in the comments which motivated me to find it....I almost lost hope but I WANTED TO FINISH THIS CLASSIC. GG

Anyone solve this on the Steam version? I've heard assigning L and R to the same button fixes the issue on emulators where you cant have more than one input at once. But I am assuming the steam version wouldnt have that issue

So from the look of it, this is an issue with keyboard ghosting. I've always used a SNES pad and have never see this problem happen.

I have the DS version myself actually so I don't need an emulator, but I am actually curious if anybody knows what causes this problem. Just looks pretty bizarre, because my brother I remember was playing the SNES version on an emu, and he ended up creating a macro that presses them all at once. It worked, but why does this happen?
