The other sorc class is probably better for cold specialization. Chronomancer is generalist but a lot of what it does feels like damage over time is going to be crazy on it.

Cold Chromancer sounds like it might be a safe way to start out. Just constantly chill, freeze, and time stop enemies as a defense

i almost exclusively played witch in poe. 90% of my league start is minions. I am looking at the Witch yet again, because I love that playstyle, I love the animations and design. I am going to go infernomancer because you get the best boy and transforming into a demon just seems so fucking cool. I got my eye on monk and sorceress. I will be playing them after getting into end game. I want to play as all of the classes in poe2. This looks like it will be the best ARPG of all time.

You might also want to keep an eye on mercenary, the gemlin legionaire has some pretty insane combinations that would make minion builds pop.

That’s what I plan on doing too. I’ll take my time playing each class through Acts 1,2,3 and then decide which class I like the best. I’ll probably play a hybrid class from that point and fail miserably 😀

Plan on playing ranger first. One of the biggest things POE 2 is improving upon is character mobility, and ranger looks like it makes the best use of that (along with monk).

In PoE 1, elementalist was the class that I didn't pay much attention to, I always played templar or trickerster and sometimes minion ( the first build was your absolution build. ) Maybe, my starter will be sorceress this time. Thanks for all the content Ghazzy !

May be a dumb question, but is functionally possible to mix mercenary and soceror/witch? Im new to Poe, but am gonna play POE 2, and those are the classes that interests me the most. I know you're able to mix classes and can use any skill.

Well Temporal Rift doesn't work EXACTLY like in PoE1. You dont have to activate it to set up the point to return to, to then later activate again to rewind there. Your position and mana/life from seconds ago is always saved data and using the ability takes you back to that point. No set up required.

I like the idea of Chrono time freeze, but I worry it'll just be a normal sorc with a couple extra skills on top. Infernalist looks a bit more comprehensive as an ascension to me atm. Need to see the Chrono nodes.

I'm excited about most of the classes except the ranger (not really my style, only time I played a deadeye was as an icicle miner). I will probably mess around for a few hours with 3 different characters at start but I'm looking hard at the Titan and the Witchhunter with the Stormcaller as a possible choice as well. If they change their mind about ascendacy respecing I'm definately starting merc because endgame I'm excited to learn "first hand" if gemling legionaire is good or not but it's very much looking like a "late bloomer" and if the gear+gem options are not up to expectations that "late bloom" will only leave wilted weeds...

For single player I'm planning to run a witch or merc focusing minions and contagion/ED for my actives. Given we can max link multiple skills I'm super excited to be able to play cont/ED with the defensive layer of the minions. I also will be playing a group game with friends and i haven't decided for that what I want to play yet, though I am expecting I may end up in the warrior with some totems/warcrys.

Starting on playing a Sorceress, probably going to Stormweaver. Goal is to have everything doing shock and then going triple on "Cast on" ailment for Ignite, Freeze and Shock. Also, I am wondering how a minion Chronomancer would feel. I mean, when frozen, your enemies can't defend themselves so minions should be more powerfull there.

Definitely gonna start Chrono. Was thinking of trying Flicker Strike as a fun "Omae ha mou shindeiru" build. Freeze time then dash from enemy to enemy in quick succession just sounds fun.

If i want to play a fire mage or a freeze mage it is still worth going for stormweaver? or should i go for chronomancer instead? because it seems a waste of points going in a electric route if you don't wanna use electric spells

I think it will come down to how much you want to actively "play" with the time effects. Stormweaver will let you spec to apply shock with any type of damage so you can lean into that even when going for ice and fire spells however until we know about the hidden ascendancy nodes it's probably too soon to say which one will be "better".

You can consider the Infernalist if you want to go fire and be safe. The sorceress probably has a good path as well, but we'll have to see.

So how it works, you cannot play a monk and choose a sorc ascendancy. There are 6 base classes, and the ascendancies are locked behind these classes, so for example if you play monk, you can only ascend into monk ascendancies, in this case - the Invoker or the Acolyte of Chayula. However, the freedom comes being able to choose pretty much any skills you want, so for example if you decide to play spells with wands, you can do so as a monk, it just may not be an ideal setup if you're going monk though. ~kikis the editor

If you're new to PoE I strongly suggest following a more recommended path. PoE can be daunting when your build is lacking. If you follow the recommended playstyles for your first playthrough, you'll be all right, though. And have fun!

How can the Chronomancer use the falling hammer skill that is only available to warriors? Is cross-classing possible in POE 2? Like starting off as warrior and ascend as Chronomancer? I've never played POE 1 so I'm a little confused.

Every Character can use any skill in theory as long as all requirements are met (like having a sword equipped for a sword skill and meeting the swords stat requirements). Ascendancys and its skills are an exception though. Chronomancer is a sorceress ascendancy, so only a sorceress will ever be able to use chronomancer skills.

Skills are only thematically tied to the classes, every class can use any skill gem they want as long as they meet the stat and with some skill weapon requirement. Same goes for all gear items in the game, as long as you have the required stats you can use any piece of gear on any character.

I'm pretty sure that ascendency skills won't be available for other classes only normal skills. So if the falling hammer skill is part of an ascendency it won't be available to use but if it isn't it should be.

Possibly, but if you get lucky like Subtractem during his LA trip, and get a good weapon early, you can obliterate bosses before they can gape you. Unless you like the gaping action.

Sorc and Witch start at the same starting location in the tree, in the intelligence bracket to the north. I don't think minions will trigger SoS since it is a modifier for your character, but I could be wrong.

I think you are underestimating time snap. I believe it "rewinds time" for you so your health, mana and cooldowns go back to what they were a few seconds ago. I am not sure if also rewinds your location like tracer's recall skill in overwatch. I am also not sure if you have to trigger a start point and then a again when you want to jump back to that or if there is a fixed rewind time. I can see this saving my life a lot as well as being a way to boost my damage.
