Dennis, a retired Quartermaster, takes us through his weekly task of winding all the chronometer and clocks throughout the ship.
As an avid collector of clocks, he was ecstatic to learn we still winde ours each week and volunteered to make that one of his jobs.

At 13:22 far left of the screen you can see the icon of St Nicholas. That’s because this ship, served in the Greek navy.

Dennis was nice to meet in person. A walking historian.

Thank you for this video. I admire the sailor’s dedication. I have never served in the military. However, as the current caretaker of many U S. Navy clocks and chronometers, I would differ on many point. One being the M. Low clock. Definitely not a Chelsea. My own M. Low clocks use their own unique movement. M. Low and Chelsea faces look the same because they were designed to a specific contract specification.

Great video! I love this "behind the scenes" look into the rates that would have been aboard. Thanks to all, especially Dennis.

I have a Soviet sub master clock. 8 day wind. It is real, not reproduction. Still works to this day, very accurate, and adjustable. Great video. Thank you.

can you overwind one of these types of clocks by hand? cause doesnt it use internal springs to take up the tension?

From Dennis: "No, there is an internal stop to prevent that from happening."
