In fact this sound pretty exactly like the NES Tim Follin's work, like Pictionary and Silver Surfer. Is pretty close to an actual adaptation by Follin himself. Tim's gotta listen to this as soon as possible.

I gotta agree. While this having the harmony of the original, it sounds exactly like a bop Follin would cook up in Pictionary or something too

getting very strong Treasure Master vibes at 1:56 - 2:22, very very good shit!!! also, just a little Follin Tip, the noise snare needs a little attack time IMO. that's a signature follin thing, at least in his more "rock"-ish NES tunes

Kinda spooky to realize that the realtime mixed original used... I think 5 voices? More than this, anyway. I've very often wished somebody would reverse-engineer the code for Tim Follin's old tunes and reiterate them so they get mixed without the harshness you get from 1-bit audio like that.

I maintain a hope that someday, somebody will disassemble the raw ZX Spectrum playroutine and reiterate it in 16-bit audio with non-scratchy mixing. Follin did a lot of tunes with that gem, and they deserve to be heard without all the noise. Efforts like this give us a good glimpse of what it could sound like, but there are still some inaccuracies. The instruments used in the original playroutine are actually fairly advanced and have some subtractive synth qualities, for example. Regardless, this is a good effort. Would love to hear a rendition of Future Games as well.
@898doffo
@898doffo 4 жыл бұрын
Nah. If you are still doubting that something can be better than this rendition, then it is best you stop being lazy and re create this masterpiece. ;) But you wont, mainly because all you can do is envision and not create your own version... So have at it, learn how to compose and show us that masterpiece.

Illegal? It bypasses any such law, by manipulating the DPCM delta counter.
@Dwedit
@Dwedit 8 ай бұрын
Having a high value in the DMC counter will lower the volume of noise+triangle. Part of the weird way there is nonlinear mixing of the sound channels. Even Nintendo's own games made use of this, StarTropics will write a value to the PCM counter to set a volume for the triangle at the beginning of every song.
