Chrysler Town & Country won't start

After the dealer worked on our van for something else our car now has difficulty starting. The dealer has had the van a total of 5 times and 22 days. We are taking it back again tomorrow. This is our last Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep vehicle

Its the fuel pump relay built into the fuse box

Finally got the dealership to replace the TPM - that fixed the issue. We worked with them for 8 weeks trying everything they could think of. Finally, they did what we asked them to do on the first visit and what do you know - it worked.

Can you post a video each time it does it. Don't take the key out. Keep the key in next time and keep trying it. Curious if it's ignition or theft system related. Try pumping the gas pedal too. If you could take a longer video next time please. And no it won't hurt the starter. You would have to crank on it waaaaaay longer then what you did. I had an old truck I had to keep the key turned for 45 seconds before it would finally start. Every single time. Sometimes it wouldn't start the first 3 or 4 times. That's 3 minutes of non stop cranking and I never once burnt a starter. Killed the battery but waited a couple minutes and it regained enough juice to crank again

You gonna kill the starter ,fuel pump relay , also if you buy the fuel pump bypass from the dealor and have it put on just know you got about three years with that relay, happened to me put a a new fuel pump on no dice , jumped the relay with a pair of pliers car started right up, went to autozone purchased a 40 amp on a Sunday which is today got home popped it in a it started, I will be purchasing which I believe is a 30 amp from the dealership this week hope this helps...

I just took my car to the mechanic and show them this video, is the same thing started 2 days ago, and today I tried 9 times! To finally started, dont know what's going on they will call me hopefully they won't take advantage and charge an insane amount

Post a video please. 3 minutes or so should work. Don't take the key out between cranks. Just keep cranking it like she did in the video. Long cranks like she did too. Also please show you pumping the gas pedal to see if that helps

+Brett Hill My neighbor once had an older version of your van and experienced this very same issue after just a couple years of ownership. When my neighbor took his van into the local repair shop, the mechanic told him that Chrysler failed to take the necessary steps of putting a weather proof harness over the electrical system. Because they failed to do this, my neighbor's electrical system in his Dodge Grand Caravan completely malfunctioned (in the middle of winter, I might add). This resulted in several "no-start" conditions, misfires, and the absolute destruction of his transmission (the van would not go out of first gear). After learning of this through his mechanic, my neighbor dumped the Grand Caravan and purchased a Ford Explorer Sport Trac and hasn't had any major problems since. On that note, I would never consider a Chrysler, especially since they "married" FIAT!

A mechanic can install a bypass to the relay. Very cheap less that 100 dollars. We fixed ours last year and we havent had a problem since.

I would go easy on the starter

1-2 minutes (as in this video) a starter can handle. The 4-5 minute mark is where enough heat is generated to melt wires. The 15 minute mark is where entire batteries are drained. Go thru about 2 batteries no rest and THEN the starter motor itself is at risk of damage. Starters can take more than they're credited for...unless they're very weathered..

I realize this is an old video and you probably don't check new comments, but I'll try anyway. Were there any other issues besides the hard start that pointed to the TIPM? Our 2012 T&C recently started doing the same thing, but we don't have any other electrical malfunctions associated with bad TIPMs.

Its called the TIPM. It's the totally integrated power module; and its essentially the fuse box. They are a very known failure point of Chrysler products, and I fully recommend a replacement. "Bypassing" is only a temporary fix, and can over time do more damage to sensitive electronics within the rest of the van. Dodge Grand Caravan / Chrysler Town & Country share the same platform, so yes, the TIPM in your van has probably failed.

Giovanni - That was our 3rd Chrysler mini-van (5th Chrysler vehicle). We sold it and have never looked back. The video was taken to show the dealer that after multiple attempts they still did not have the issue resolved and to point out that it was the TPM which needed replaced. Not sure what your experience is, but you must work for Chrysler!
