I think Bayi basically gave up in the end, or he wanted to watched the "drama" unfolded as well, but he had to finish his dance battle. It is so funny that the candles used in Chinese wedding are coincidentally red candles. Because of this reason, Bayi (the long hair dancer) actually gained a lot of attentions in the Chinese community, so this actually ended with a bright side for him.

If you watch the clip you can see that Santa went his way first to dance with him but he stepped back. I think he was nervous or confused why Santa got so close to him. He said in a interview before that he kinda regret that he didn't handle the situation well. Liu yu has more stage performance experience so he worked the situation better when Santa came to him after getting "rejected" by Bayi. I don't think it is because he is more popular
