He was the greatest of them all playing rock and roll 💪

I played with Chuck on May 1st 1971 in Chapel Hill NC at a music festival called JUBILEE. It is on KZbin under the name "UNC Jubilee 71." The segment with Chuck is found in the 2nd segment filmed footage all the way at the end after the concert footage of The Allman Brothers. I am playing drums with him. I have 10 beautiful black and white photos taken of this concert including one with me and Chuck laughing together back stage before we went on stage.

@scottmoyer1357 That’s a great memory to treasure. I’ve got to watch that show. I’ve had some memorable moments playing bass with a few successful artists but nothing as memorable as playing with Chuck. The man was/is rock n roll Royalty. Without Mr. Berry there would be no rock N roll as we know it. He was the blueprint that so many great musicians followed. And you made music with him 👍

I always wanted to see Chuck at Blueberry Hill but never got the chance. I've always been proud of the fact that he was from St Louis, I grew up in a small town and hour south in Missouri. Everybody cops Chucks licks and I still think Johnny B Good is the greatest rock n roll song of all time, that intro is 20 seconds of guitar heaven if you ask me.

It's great learning about all the Rock icons I grew up with. I am 68, so I am a child of Rock and Roll and the days of 45 records and record players. Wish I still had all my old records.

Agree..my bad. Even a lot of Chuck's guitar riffs were copped from Johnny's piano work. Thanks for watching!

I have two Chuck Berry things, First, I met him in LA when Karl and I demonstrated a recording console with fader automatiom in 89 or 90. We had a private meeting, after hours, at West LA Music. Just Chuck, a blond he had with him, Karl and myself, in folding chairs in the showroom. Just studio talk and demo. 2nd. The Circle Jerks have the best story. A West Coast Punk band, played a gig south of St. Louis. Chuck Berry showed up when they started and moved to the front of the stage, smiling, listening, tripping out the band. Then, Chuck motioned to the singer and he leaned down. Chuck said.he really liked the band and wanted to jam with them. They were like, uh, sure. Chuck got up and played 5 or.6 Chuck Berry songs with The Circle Jerks.

I saw Chuck Berry at Finsbury Park when he first came to UK in May 1964. He was awful. Luckily we had booked two more dates on the tour in advance (at Woolwich Granada and Bristol Colston Hall). We considered not going but a friend had seen him at Croydon and said he was sensational, so we went to Woolwich and he was absolutely amazing. He was even better at the Colston. Carl Perkins was in tears at the reception he got on the tour, which he thoroughly deserved. Berry was the greatest live performer I have ever seen or ever likely to see. He had total command of an audience and a personality the size of Wales.

It's fitting Chuck is the 1st Rock'n'Roll inductee to the Rock'n'Roll hall of fame. There is no one in Rock'n'Roll that doesn't look up to him.

I went to Vegas for the weekend 1992-96 and my girlfriend at the time wanted to see a show. We went down to some agency inside our hotel and ask what is a good show to see, he started listing all artists playing that night, and I yelled WAIT DID YOU SAY CHUCK BERRY? The actual Chuck Berry not an impersonation. He said yes, but tickets are a little pricey. I got two tickets to see Chuck Berry at the Desert Inn in Las Vegas. I even tipped the waiter so I could be seated in a booth center stage with a direct view of stage. My two boys listen to Chuck Berry, Little Richard etc. And I was able to tell my son yes I got to see the founding father of Rock N Roll in concert. What's cool we have tickets to see Frankie Valli in concert when he comes to Phoenix.

@@RiverDocs No, I'm saying I may not like it but IF it was my mom I would hate it 1000 times worse. Yes, I know it was in his restaurant. Sorry for any confusion. Check it again my post is unedited. And I also meant their depravity was usually kept to the road. Not brought back home. LOL

After Elvis Presley died on August 16, 1977, the African American newspaper, the Chicago Defender explained that: “When Elvis Presley breathed his last breath and the press hailed him as the ‘King of Rock,’ Ol’ Man River cried out, ‘Naw he ain’t! My friend Chuck Berry is the King of Rock. Presley was merely a Prince who profited from the royal talent of a sovereign ruler vested with tremendous creativity. Had Berry been white, he could have rightly taken [Presley’s] throne and worn his crown well.’”

I think it started with Bill Haley in 1953/54. He was the father of rock and roll. Maybe Chuck Berry too. They almost had the same age.

I saw Chuck a couple of times in the mid & late '70s and was disappointed, especially because I love his music so much. By that time, he was hiring local musicians for his backup band, and in many cases the Union sent over the absolute wrong guys. The gigs were really inconsistent from city to city and Chuck's rep took a hit, if I remember. St. Louis to Liverpool is my favorite album, not from his first wave of 50s hits, but from 1964. You Never Can Tell and several other all-time greats are on that album.
Was Chuck Berry the strangest man in the history of rock?
