My man Greg , The Legendary Chuck Berry is one of the first to start up PURE Rock & Roll, got mad respect for him. And even though Bruce is a Legend himself, he still knows and is in awe of Chuck Berry, someone he looked up to all his life as a rocker. That’s why he’s got that look. It is awesome to see them together. Bruce is in awe that Chuck is even on the stage with him. He more then likely asked Mr. Chuck Berry to show up with him and sing this legendary song. I love this, this is bad a$$. And ya gotta know at the same time, this is Chuck Berry In his very much older years . God bless em both and yourself man 👊🏼🇺🇸

Chuck Berry is officially recognized as the "Father of Rock 'n' Roll", which is the genre we just heard. We saw him do the "duck walk", his invention & signature move. We saw Bruce Springsteen, whom he was hugging, & Bruce's E Street Band, watching the legendary master with awe. And we saw an audience 30 yrs. removed from Chuck's heyday rock out with him like he was brand new. Other songs: a jamming duet with The Beatles' John Lennon, performing "Memphis, TN" & "Johnny B. Goode" (try to tune out the screeching of John's wife, Yoko Ono); Chuck's studio (NOT live) versions of "Nadine" & "Roll Over Beethoven". Thanks for this one.

This is how rock & roll originally sounded. Chuck Berry was one of the first musicians to make it big in rock & roll, back in the 1950s. Other songs of his you might want to listen to are "Nadine," and "You Never Can Tell." You might also want to check out Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band as well. Lots of good songs here: "Thunder Road," "Born to Run," "I'm on Fire," "Jungleland," "The River," and many more.

In 1973 Chuck Berry was playing at the University of Maryland on a double bill with Jerry Lee Lewis. Bruce Springsteen and the E St. Band was the opening act. Jerry Lee had his own backup band, but Chuck Berry would as a rule would travel by himself and work with pickup bands from where he was going to perform. In the documentary, "Hail, Hail Rock n' Roll", the story goes that for this particular concert, the promoter asked Springsteen if he knew of any local bands that could backup Chuck Berry. He thought for a moment and told the promoter that he and his band would play backup. Bruce liked the idea of someday telling his grandkids that he played with Chuck Berry. At the start of the concert, Springsteen and his band played some new stuff, then Jerry Lee Lewis filled the arena with Great Balls of Fire and did his set. It was time for Chuck Berry, and no one had seen him. The promoter asked Springsteen to go out and play, and Bruce said to him no way was he going out when everyone was expecting Chuck Berry. About that time a car pulls up in the loading dock area, and a guy gets out and pops open the trunk and pulls out a guitar case. It was Chuck Berry. He makes it to the backstage area where Springsteen introduces himself and says his group will be playing backup. He asks Berry what tempos does he like, what key does he like to play in, and what kind of songs is he going to play. Berry looked at him and said, "We're going to play Chuck Berry songs." The concert was fabulous. I know because I was there. That night Chuck Berry and Bruce Springsteen became friends and would perform together on several occasions.

Chuck Berry is rock n roll royalty. Here's another one of his biggest songs "Chuck Berry - Roll Over Beethoven" (by the channel; HoneyBoyWalter) and you may recognize this song from a movie or tv show. However, the "Beatles" covered this song and I believe, John Lennon sang it at every concert from 1961til 1964. (I may not be accurate on the dates) The Beatles covered something like 15 Chuck Berry songs in their live shows. I say this in order to demonstrate just how great Chuck Berry's music really is.

Chuck mixed blues and country. His words flowed like the melody. He didn’t have a band, but would drive to venue, get paid in cash, and play without rehearsal. Bruce played as backup after opening for him and letting the band hired for Chuck to keep their pay. Chuck played every 3rd Thursday in club for years. Always sold out. The Duck Walk you saw became name of room dedicated to him. Watch YT of his appearance on Johnny Carson. Showed up with guitar at showtime. Johnny bumped his other guests and had all Chuck show. Never saw that before. He played my High School and hosted bands every Friday at his farm.
