I saw chuck about 10 years ago opening for Lucinda Williams at a tiny club in Chicago. He blew me away. Lucinda was disappointing that night but Chuck saved the night. I agree with the above - he's so underrated.

Almost walked past him at Van Ness and Market today, but stopped to compliment him on his show at the Make Out Room last week. He not only has talent: he roped in talent from Hardly Strictly Bluegrass to join him. To my praise, he simply said, "Awesome, Dude!" Humble, gracious guy: a musician's musician.

Seen him live a number of times, and it's always a treat! (Apart from the last gig when he was utterly knackered at the end of a long European tour...) What a bassist Kevin is!!!! Steals the show, in my book!!!

LOVE IT! Thanks for posting. I actually stepped away from my computer last night long enough to see this on TV, and was pretty much the best sounding thing that's ever come out of those little three-inch speakers. It's nice to see Chuck getting the attention he's deserved for decades. In 18 months when every alternaJock in America is sporting a "You Could Make A Doubter Out Of Jesus" T-shirt, I'll be the first to proudly stand up and say "I knew him when". -- Michael W. Dean

Close look at the headstock of Chuck's Strat... any idea of the builder? And what effects would the second lead microphone be using?
@scowell6 жыл бұрын
The mic *is* the effect... same trick Les Claypool uses. Shure Green Bullet harmonica mic... not sure the sound mixer got the message, he dialed back the tinny sound, it didn't sound that different.
@Derickbass6 жыл бұрын
Thanks, @@scowell Kinda figured that was the case, and did notice the lack of difference from the "regular" mic. How is that effect achieved? Backing off treble and bass and pushing the mid?
@scowell6 жыл бұрын
@@Derickbass The mic is designed for speaking intelligibility... so the response is tailored to around 600-2K Hz response. You can get the same effect with a bandpass filter or EQ. Watch Primus videos to see Les do it right.

p/s Stephanie looks and sounds great, Chuck's band is tight, and Paul Shaffer on Glockenspiel is so wrong that it's right. Paul was prefect, but also made me laugh so hard I accidentally spit soda on my carpet. He looks like a mad scientist. Was nice to have the house band augmenting the guest artist rather than just jamming over them, as they sometimes do. Nice handclaps, too. -- Michael W. Dean
