Very cool birds. In my area of Illinois, we only have whip-poor-wills, and I've yet to hear or see one. I'm jealous you got to be so up close.

Macoupin County, Illinois was my former residence. I would hear them at night and actually saw one once as it was catching moths and insects beneath a garage light.

I have heard them many times I always raised my windows in early spring to hear those calls in the night I love the calls of Chuck Will's Widows
