This video is considered one of my ultimate bucket list items. I wouldn't attempt it until I gained a lifetime experience of winter camping....but the time was right and I picked a major blizzard to test out my skills.
Thanks for tuning in,

Videos like these make me appreciate my warm apartment. Late September, early October is the latest I've ever camped. Never had the opportunity to camp like this. It's fun to watch. Made me a little chilled. Had to eat spicy Noodle soup and a cup of hot tea.

The first time I tried it years ago, I was quite nervous. Now that it’s been a few years I feel much more comfortable (comfortable enough to try it in a blizzard).

Chuck, at just after 21 minutes in, when you first went out in the dark after supper, you called your sled a "sleigh"! You're being corrupted by the cool kids! 😂
@stephenrickettsNL

You will note he was referring to the Pelican Sleigh behind his skidoo here. Not the SkiDoo itself. A sleigh or sled is towed behind a skidoo.

I was camping during the winter in home made shelters when I was 13 years old....1974. -25 F sleeping in a lean-to was no picnic! lol I had an axe, army winter sleeping bag my uncle gave me and my back pack with my hunting knife and a ferro rod. Todays bus crafters and more like camping in store bought shelters eating gourmet meals and drinking craft beer....lol

Great tips in this video that I hadn't thought of before. I mostly winter camp at Provincial Parks where we can't cut wood down so I either bring two extendable tent poles to keep my ice shelter from caving in or I set an alarm every two hours to go take a peek at how much has accumulated and then I use my shovel to lightly scrape it off the roof. If I ever get to crown land I'll be using your pole hack for sure! Thanks for taking the time to make this great video, I've recommended your channel to a few friends. I can't wait to get out in another snowstorm!

Wild game is the best for sure. I learned something off you today Chuck. Those poles to keep the sleeping bag away from the stove is a great idea. I'll add that to my bag of tricks. I love winter camping too. I've used wall tents, and now have a teepee made out of some high tech material. I've been in it with winds up to 90k with no issues, and like you, I use the Winnerwell stove as well. Breakfast looked great, used to have all the time, beans and bologna. Really enjoy your videos. Keep 'em coming!

Haha. Screech. Glad you tuned in my friend. Screech is a rum that Newfoundlanders use in a ceremony to make someone an “honorary” member of the province. The whole performance is called “screeching in”. I have only performed one of these ceremonies myself, however, I have seen countless others performed. Ironically, I know no one who actually drinks this rum on a regular basis lol

Great Video...... I still call them skidoos, I can't get use to the term sleds. To me a sled is something you tow behind or slide down a hill on. I grew up in Corner Brook but spent many of my summers with my grandparents in Birchy Bay. Occasionally going in boat to Gayside as it was known then. Growing up my father (from Birchy Bay) occasionally use to have a snack in the night time but he called it getting a "Little Lunch". So I guess some of us Newfoundlanders have 2 lunches in the run of a day depending where you are from. Breakfast, lunch, supper and Little Lunch. And of course the Little Lunch is anytime after 9pm.....lol

Another relaxing Chuck Porter video! 10:12 - you've inspired me to dig out my Patrick McManus books and read them yet again for the umpthteen time - lol - You've probably read all of Patrick McManus' books, but if not, you will definitely want to😉. Guaranteed! - lol - - - Calling a snowmobile a "skido" wasn't just a NFLD thing. That's what we referred to all snowmobiles as in Sask when I grew up also. And my buddies & I still find ourselves using that term to this day. The younger Gen now calls them "Sleds" which can also be confusing - lol - Ooooops, I wrote that last sentence before I finished listening to your story, but man oh man can I ever relate to your "Funny Fact for the Day"! - And yes, we call it supper too and I always get confused as to whether people are referring to lunch or supper when they use the term "dinner". For us, dinner was another term for lunch. - - - 28:05 - what kind of lard/fat was that? - - - Thanx for including us. Very enjoyable and relaxing with my morning coffee.

@@ChuckPorterEverythingOutdoors . . . You will not regret putting Patrick's book(s) to the front of your cue. I promise. Short stories filled with situational humour from outdoor adventures you will definitely relate to; both from your childhood and adult experiences. One book has several short stories that will only take up 15-30 min of your time. I never laughed out loud while reading, until I read his books. He used to write for Feild and Stream before publishing his own books.
