Funny thing about Mr. Rugged, in Japanese the default title for addressing someone (usually translated as Mr./Mrs./Ms.) and the word for mountain can be pronounced the same depending on context. Mr. Rugged and Mt. Rugged could both technically be pronounced Rugged-san. You were technically right as a kid, just in a completely different language!

Goombario's Log Day 12: We got up bright and early today to head to Dry Dry Desert in search of the second Star Spirit. After Bombette opened the tracks for us, we took the train straight to the desert. Once we got there, we ran into Parakarry, the mail-koopa. He dropped some letters and we had to go find them for him. They were pretty easy though, and we got them back to him no problem. In return, Karry offered to lend us a hand in our adventure. So now we're a party of five, I wonder who we'll meet up with next? Kooper's Log Day 7: Phew, this desert heat sure is blistering. This shell sure doesn't help a lot when it comes to the heat as well. But at the very least, I'm not the only koopa suffering from the heat, as we met up with Parakarry. He'll be joining us on our adventure, but man, how can Karry handle the heat in all of those clothes? Gosh, I envy him. P.S. Apparantly, Mario is my son? Don't know what that was about. Bombette's Log Day 6: *panting* So, hot. I'm worried this heat will light my fuse if I'm out too long. At the very least, it's been fun blowing up Clefts over and over again. So hey, it's not all bad. Oh yeah. We have a new friend today, Parakarry. Another boy as well. Gosh, when are we gonna gets some more girls in this squad? Parakarry's Log Day 1: Wah-Hoo! I can't believe it! I'm going on an adventure with Mario! I know Mario won't be disappointed by my services. I know these lands like the back of my hand. Oh, and of course he's agreed to help me find my missing letters too. But let's not talk about that part. Now then, off we go! Dry Dry Outpost, here we come! *shortly after reaching the desert* Kooper: Ah, the desert. Count how many sands is here, Goombario. That's your first mission. Goombario: Ok. *Proceeds to start counting while everyone talks over him* Bombette: Why the Fuzz would you make him do that!? Kooper: It passes the time. Bombette: It's gonna take so long. Kooper! It's gonna be so annoying! Kooper: I'm curious what the biggest number is. Bombette: No! He's just going to be counting forever! Kooper: Perhaps. But it's... (Parakarry losing his mind in the background) Bombette: Kooper, what have you brought!? This is your fault! Goombario: There are only 30 million sand particles in this desert. Kooper: See, that was easy. Bombette: Fuzz. Oh my Goomba.

By "we won't be able to go back to Toad Town for a little while," Emile really means "not until we leave the next screen and come back so the train resets." Mt. Rugged is the point in the game where I realized just how useful Dizzy Attack is. Until you get Damage Dodge, you will always take at least 1 damage from every attack. That might not sound much, but it adds up. By dizzying an enemy early and by being smart with badge usage, you can greatly reduce the amount of damage you take long-term. Useful if you want to conserve items.

Speaking as a former USPS Mail Carrier, if you lost letters like Parakarry did, you would REALLY be in big trouble. At the very least you'd lose your job. You'd find yourself in some serious legal trouble as well. On top of that, even if you didn't lose letters, USPS has Zero Tolerence for slow Carriers. If you can move at their pace, you're finished, let alone having to look for the letters you lost which wastes time. Long Story Short: Parakarry would be a disgrace to all Mail Carriers in the real world's standards.

Emile hasn't mentioned it as far into the video as I am yet, but I just wanted to comment an obvious piece of trivia. Dry Dry Ruins in PM was the inspiration for the Mario Kart Wii track DDR. As a paper mario fan it made me love that track back in the day, still one of my favorites.

Gosh this episode was rife with puns. You have outdone yourself pun King. Before you explained it, I assumed that was the reason why you were referring to Mt. Rugged as "Mr. Rugged". Also here's my tactic that I liked using for executing first strikes on the clefts with Bombette: Not too dissimilar to the technique you used by just lining up the perfect distance for her to walk within the cleft's hitbox, but instead of just depending purely on the throw to make her walk the perfect distance, I first activate her out of battle ability and then get within the cleft's sight range to make it walk into bombette after a couple seconds have passed. Probably not as reliable as your patient method but just as fun nonetheless. Nice Voice you used for Parakarry. I think it suits Parakarry's personality and presentation quite well.

Kammy’s yellow block, the fallen supplies, the disguised Koopa Bros., the fold-up bridge that required Kooper, and now…a rock. What is it with this game and roadblocks? You’d think this was set in Onett with how many there’ve been. 0:08 How many times has she heard that one before? 1:00 I’m loving how much of a ripple effect Bowser’s uprooting plan had on Toad Town though. This was the most devastating plan of his yet (apart from attacking the Star Festival), as minions attacking Toad Town in SMRPG was Mack’s/Smithy’s idea and the Blorbs was caused by a different third party. “Mister” Rugged? Either the font’s getting harder to read, or Chugga’s eyes ain’t what they used to be. If you’ve got shopping to do, get on it! You may wish to leave some items checked in the shops here as the only shop you have access to in Dry Dry Outpost doesn’t exactly have the best selection. Also keep a lot of inventory space open if you’re planning on finding everything “Mr. Rugged” and the Desert have to offer. Chapter 2 is a veritable treasure trove of consumables if you know where to look. 2:00 Is there some in-joke I’m missing in Emile calling the place “Mr. Rugged”? Was that something he did as a kid? Also the stationmaster makes it sound like you can go to other places on the train. No, it’s just Mt. Rugged. At least we don’t need a Ticket to Ride (which if you’ve not played, it’s a pretty fun tabletop game). Wait, what about those sisters who wanted to go to the Outpost? Are we just gonna leave them here? Nice to know that the railroad crossing is safe. I’m pretty sure the train itself is also a reference. It doesn’t have the guard in the front and has a star instead of a 64, but it uses the same colors and there’s the train music sounding like Kalimari Desert. 3:00 I love the little munchy boi and how that guy in the back is just waving their hands in the air like they just don’t care. Also Ground Theme! It’s not the full theme however as it loops as the C section and cuts out the D section entirely. Ah, there we go. Thought it might have to do with child Emile. Don’t worry, that Egg isn’t fertilized. Also kinda weird that the desert area’s (or Mt. Rugged’s) renewable food is…an egg. 4:10 Ah, so you’re one of those players. Don’t let PETW find out! Myself, I only whack Whacka twice a file. It takes a screen transition to turn the train around, even if you return here after Chapter 2 via train. It’s the same thing in TTYD with the Excess Express, only the trek to the screen transition is slightly longer. Goompa wasn’t exactly packing heat when he was fixing the veranda. Maybe it’s because of the aviator goggles, but I give Parakarry a Launchpad McQuack voice myself. Also, this is why he was away from the post office. 5:25 Your job? You mean our ability to proceed? C’mon, anyone who’s seen the cover art of this game and/or the demo knows Parakarry’s a Partner. 6:10 Back when Nintendo didn’t quite have Monty Mole’s design down. I quite like his modern iteration. You would think that using a Hammer against them would be more effective than Jumping because of the whole “Whack-a-Mole” thing (Whack-a-Monty is still my favorite Super Mario Party rhythm minigame if only because of Monty’s face and how uncomfortable he is the whole time), but no, it’s the same damage throughout. Do keep that logic in mind for much much later however. 7:10 …Why did Emile have Pay-Off on during the Blooper fight anyways? The timing gets especially weird if there are flying enemies in the mix as the elevation differences do change the timing up. Also Kooper’s Power Shell can’t hit flying enemies while Multibounce can. Conversely, Multibounce currently can’t hurt Spiked enemies who end the Multibounce midway if they’re not the last enemy in the series (Mario always starts from left to right. You can’t choose where you start jumping or if you skip over enemies), and enemies with a Defense of 1 take no damage (Mario will still continue the Multibounce in this case). 8:16 You don’t have to get the item. You could just say hi. And yeah, we’re seeing the problem with Emile loading up on items for this trip; there’s a lot to grab, and Mario’s got really limited inventory space with no way of expanding it. Why can’t we just hand items over to our Partners to carry? 9:06 That would be a federal offense. Rocks also don’t generally have spikes protruding out of their head, wear shoes, and are sentient. 10:44 Despite their appearance and not being Shelled enemies, Clefts can be flipped. The thing is, the item that would normally flip them (the POW Block) kills them in one hit anyways, so… 11:55 All offensive items pierce defense in this game unless the enemy has resistances to the offensive item’s element. 14:25 It’s nice to have that alternative however, and we’ll get enough BP eventually where we can afford to just keep it on at 1 BP. Damage Dodge does not increase Mario’s Defense stat when guarding; it just reduces incoming damage by an extra point. This may seem inherently inferior to Defense Plus apart from BP consumption, but there are enemy attacks that pierce Mario’s Defense. Because Damage Dodge doesn’t increase his Defense stat, that means that guarding with Damage Dodge in that case will block more damage than guarding while having Defense Up equipped. You weren’t really taking that much damage; they’re just naturally worth more coins. Pay-Off takes the amount of damage Mario took in battle and divides it by 2, rounding down, to give that many additional coins. Unless Mario takes a lot of damage in a single battle and lives in the end, you’re not getting that many coins out of Pay-Off provided the enemy can even drop coins… 16:44 That Tower seems like the middle ground for Emile wanting to buy a trampoline but being afraid that he wouldn’t have time to really use it. 18:28 This way you can’t just farm Star Points off of most enemies. There’s one notable exception we won’t be seeing until late game. 19:13 This coming from Emile of all people. The Launchpad voice I guess fits him a lot better than I’d remembered. Imagine if Parakarry had lost Peach’s invite to the Mario Bros. from the start of the game. 20:22 Like with Bombette however, we’re not going to get very far seeing how that bridge was out with no one fixing it (how are those Toads going to get to the Outpost now?), and we’ve seen a lot of gaps we can’t cross. Other than Bowser, Kammy, and the Star Spirits. 21:00 So our Party members could either attack spiked enemies or flying enemies but not both. Parakarry is the first party member who is able to do both and for decent damage too (not good enough against Clefts though. That’s Bombette and Mario’s wheelhouse for now). He will definitely be earning his keep both in and out of battle.

18:40 Honestly, I kind of hate games that reduce the experience earned if you outlevel the enemies enough. They're there to counter grinding, ignoring the reason why the player might be grinding: either because they really want a special new skill, and can't wait for it to come naturally, or because they're really struggling with a challenge, be it a new area or a boss, and need to even the odds. Reducing XP yields feels like a middle finger. I can understand why it's here in this specific case, where all level ups are on a 1-100 XP bar, but I still don't like it when games do this.

This is the LP of all the nostalgic Chuggaa troupes and I'm down for it. Hopefully you can find plenty of uses for Parakarry to show off to people. From what I've seen he kind of gets a rap of one of the least useful party members. It's a shame because he does have some unique traits, but I think the reason he's got the rap he does is because all those traits end up getting replaced by better abilities pretty quick after this chapter. With the types of enemies we'll be fighting later it kind of feels like the chapter was built around him to try and make him as useful as possible while they could. Even then, you get stuff that can do what he does pretty quickly. Hopefully we still get to see some of Parakarry in action though.

Now that you have Parakarry, Bombette is completely useless outside of first strikes. He's basically just air Bombette, which gives him the edge all around.
@Surgemaster20122 жыл бұрын
@GamerZone Speaking Power Bomb is FP expensive and you'd be better off just using Kooper for much cheaper spread damage or Dizzy Shell. While Air Lift is the worst partner move in the game (and worst attack honestly) Parakarry being airborne means he has greater range already outclassing Bombette, not only that, but Sky Dive and Shell Shot are air versions of Body Slam and Bomb, anything I'd want Body Slam or Bomb for I could use Sky Dive and Shell Shot. Plus once he gets Air Raid then good luck on Bombette having even more of a use. Bombette only notoriety is first striking. Which is niche.

Nice to see a real, hard-working mailman... Unlike a certain mailbox service from Wind Waker who keeps trying to sell guns to Toon Link! ... This is a joke from NicoB's LP of Wind Waker, by the way. Highly recommend people go watch it.

04:09 Woah there, chill out with the inner demons, man. 10:50 Yeah, I've always loved that visual damage effect. Damage Dodge is definitely one of the best badges in the game, if you ask me. As soon as I get it here on Mt. Rugged, it's pretty much permanently equipped on Mario.

K'Nex is the Engineers' Lego :P You're not building how something looks, it's all about the function and how it works. I remember we had them in the SEN Rooms at High School, so me and a few of the other kids would make trucks out of them that could actually drive down the hallway

I used to be stuck on Mt. Rugged for a long time as a kid, because I couldn't figure out how to get the second letter. I didn't know I could walk inside that mountain to get to the long slide, so I was just constantly running back and forth, talking to Parakarry. I began just watching the demo version to see the myth that lied beyond Mt. Rugged and how Parakarry becomes your partner. Eventually, I walked far enough to see I could walk through the tunnel leading to that slide, and I was so happy to _finally_ being able to move on.

I like the way they introduce common Mario enemies to use as party members. It is neat seeing Koopas, Paratroopas, and Bom-omb Buddies show more of what they can do. Although, Bom-omb Buddies aren't really enemies.

You know that's one efficient passenger steam train if all the passengers ride in the locomotive itself. The wheel arrangement is also 0-6-2, with the trailing wheels being bigger than the driving wheels. Steam trains are never accurate in video games, and they also seem to forget that we don't use steam engines anymore for a reason.

I have more evidence that Emile was a baseball announcer. And now evidence that he's a murderer like myself. 5:37 Not this joke again... I thought it died with the end of your Majora's Mask playthrough... oh, right. You PLAYED as the Postman in the 20 year anniversary special Zelda Universe did for Majora's Mask. I guess that joke should've died then. I loved that series. The animator that made those custom scenes (his name is MajorLink, check him out! His work is absolutely beautiful, focusing mostly around the story of the Hero of Time but also having some other works that look just as incredible about other parts of the Zelda series) did such an amazing job. My favourite scene had to be the one where Link first puts on the Fierce Deity's Mask. Seeing him go limp was... kind of terrifying.

I know Emile thinks the postman is the true superhero of the American people, but seriously, what is it with Nintendo and incompetent postmen? First we have Pete who delivers letters to the wrong places, then we had the postman from Phantom Hourglass who reads people's letters out loud and tampers with the mail, and now we have Parakarry who just drops letters everywhere. - Dry Dry Desert seems to get the most love in Mario Kart. Kalamari Desert shares its Japanese name with Dry Dry Desert, (hence the music and similar train) and in Mario Kart Wii, there was a Dry Dry Ruins track! - OK good, you did show what happens if you sit on the screen for a bit. - Freaking Clefts. I always ran until I learned about bomb first strikes. - Parakarry (or Derpy, thanks to Reese) is a partner that took me a while to learn to love in battle. I found his attacks incredibly hard to time as a kid, so I rarely used him in favour of Bombette. I also misunderstood what his ultimate attack did - I thought it was like the Fright Jar in that it would blow all enemies away without giving star points, so I never wanted to use it. But I eventually came around...he really is quite useful and makes his annoying chain letter well worth it!

So I played this part yesterday, and died to a Cleft. I was low on health, had forgotten to heal, tried to run, and accidently hit do nothing instead. So that was fun. I hate these stupid rocks, but on the other hand I got pretty good at using Bombette to blow them up before the battle started. Mt. Rugged is a good way to start the chapter. It's certainly more interesting aesthetically than anything in chapter 1, at least. Though I will say that the enemies are annoying and have awkward timings for defending. D-Down Pound would have been nice to have here. The only badge I bought at the badge shop was Multibounce. Don't regret it, because I love Multibounce, but anything that would have made Clefts less annoying would have been great here... Parakarry joins the party! I haven't had much chance to use him yet, but he's certainly a memerable character.
