Chum salmon spawning in the Columbia River Gorge

BPA and its federal partners use the flexibility of the Columbia River Power System to ensure threatened chum salmon have enough water to spawn in the estuary. Even during dry falls, the federal agencies bring water stored hundreds of miles up river to the estuary to ensure salmon redds remain submerged. The operation also allows the river to be deep enough so fish can make it into side channels and creeks to spawn. This video is of Hamilton Creek in the Gorge.
