Cortes Bank doesn’t get enough recognition. I think it can hold waves just as big as Nazare, if not bigger. We just haven’t seen them yet because how hard it is to make it out there.

@@jonofnazare2450 I disagree, I know Nazare has submarine canyons kinda like Blacks Beach but it is in the open ocean. You should check out Surfline’s - How Cortes Bank Works video on KZbin. It was either Rusty Long or Parson that swears they witnessed a 100ft wave there. Parsons road a 75ft wave there. It’s def more dangerous than Nazare

Cortez needs pretty much perfect conditions to be rideable so it's very rare for it to be surfed. Cortez actually gets bigger swell than Nazare but the wave height ends up smaller because it doesn't have the canyon to combine the swells like Nazare does. It's still a better wave though. You can get barreled out there.

@@Goldgolemn I'm pretty sure there isn't video. The story was told in The Surfer's Journal or Surfer Magazine. I don't remember exactly which. This took place in the early to mid 90's.

2funny y'all ! yeah my father would tell me stories from when he was surfing back in the great depression where they used to paddle out from San Diego and road 150 foot waves halfway back to The Cali Lmfao .do this sound familiar where all our folks or grandparents would tell us stories about how much more it would snow back in their day where they never canceled school and they would walk in chest or waist deep snow all winter to get to school lol

When I grew up we were so poor at Christmas my present was a stone my mum picked up off the driveway and wrapped up in an old box. I would paint the stone and sell it to save up for my first surfboard 😮

We've been fishing there for decades and decades! It's been surfed back in the mid-90's with no ski assistance just paddle power. SMH. Oh, the fishing is good too.

@@joblo6394it was actually back in ‘61 Harrison Ealy is credited surfing it first. It wasn’t till the mid 70s people started hearing about it and flying to it to photo the waves. It blew up in the 90s when tow surfing became a thing. 🤙🤜

There was a documentary made of that trip. Very rare conditions for Cortez normally extremely windy and mixed swell directions not to mention VERY sharky. Little downtime in the water those skis were important.
