As rhythm games continue to advance and evolve, charts increase in complexity and intensity, slowly evolving to use all of the game's mechanics. But what happens when you let your charters go beyond the rules of the normal game? Well, you get Chunithm's World's End folder, an array of content that will leave you questioning what a rhythm game even is.

Warning: Long comment thread! Hi, Japanese Chunithm player here! I just want to give some clarifications on some of things you may have missed, or haven’t elaborated enough on.
@tkhkm5168

In Chunithm, you don’t have to tap the whole width of a note in order for it to register. However in a “Split” chart, you are required to do so because the notes are divided into smaller notes. THIS is where the difficulty of “Split” charts come from.

The “Cloth” charts come from the culture of “Towel Spinning”, which is often done at live concerts in Japan. It involves spinning a towel above your head like a helicopter to the rhythm of the music. The first “Cloth” chart was for Suirenka by Shonan No Kaze, which is a song often attributed to the popularization of Towel Spinning. Sadly the chart got removed from the game before the addition of Seishun Cider. There were a few other charts that were removed as well. m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/qWScdJttlr2ZZqs I think this video is a decent demonstration.

Yes, you are correct with the “Warehouse” charts. They are charts that were “shelved” (お*蔵*入り in Japanese), usually after going through revisions.

The “Bullet” charts are usually made the other way around, with TAPS being replaced with FLICKS (Ex: Jingle Bells). Shakunetsu Switch replaces flicks with taps because the color red is associated with the word 灼熱, which means “scorching heat”.

The “Mystery” chart was made for a limited April Fool’s Day event in collaboration with the puzzle creator group AnotherVision, led by Ryogo Matsumaru, who’s an avid rhythm gamer. This event involved solving puzzles hidden throughout the three Sega rhythm games, and if you solved all of the puzzles, you got in-game prizes such as nameplates.

More games need a “meme chart” category, especially modern rhythm games nowadays where they can seemingly do whatever. Also that last chart reminds me of WaiWai party on how Flandre S has an alternate mix of just BeatMARIO a Capella.

Cytus II's Crash difficulty is sort of this, they have a chart where the screen is basically a d-pad. Arcaea's April Fools charts (and BYD charts, to a lesser extent) get extremely wild too. I never cared much about April Fool's Day until I started playing rhythm games heavily, but now it's fun to see the charting teams stretch the engine to its limits every year. I just wish the charts stayed around afterwards.

For the last category, the song is a cover by Takenobu Mitsuyoshi of the song "Ikazuchi" which was created by the same person. In the maimai chart at least, the chart contains clues for an april fools puzzle that they held a long time ago.

Cool video. FYI while「覚」technically can mean "awakening" as in 覚める / 覚ます, it also more commonly can mean "memorization" as in 覚える, which given how these charts seem to work is probably the more accurate translation.

Here's something I think you and everyone else missed, the Half charts are half-width, with the outer lanes being unused. Combined with the notes being narrower and split as a result, your hands end up feeling more cramped and more likely to hit each other.

I would love to see a new World's end variant that an air note will be there from start until end of the song, forcing you to use only 1 hand to play if you are not using your head, this would indeed be fun

i think it's a shame the clip for Geki! Teikoku Kagekidan (歌) doesn't *really* show the gimmick in action: massive sections of dark blue damage notes spelling out the lyrics

The "Cirno's Perfect Math Classroom" introduced 5:14 is based on the boss of the first stage of the original "Touhou Koumakyou" from 5:51 to 6:00. Also, it will still be playable at 4:11am on September 15, 2024 (JST). 5:14で紹介された「チルノのパーフェクトさんすう教室」は、5:51から6:11までは原作である「東方紅魔郷」の1面ボスが元ネタです。また、2024年9月15日4時11分(JST)ではまだ遊ぶことが出来ます。 If I'm wrong, please feel free to tell me, whether you're a listener in Japan or outside of Japan. I'll check and correct it as soon as possible. 間違ってたら日本国内リスナーだろうが日本国外リスナーだろうが容赦なく言ってください。速攻で確認して訂正します。

One of my favorite WORLD'S END charts, Lagtrain (which is a Both chart) is actually just two of it's standard charts, just split down the middle (hell, it's note designer is "ADVANCED/EXPERT") lol I absolutely love WORLD'S END charts, I think they're fun to mess around with Also, if you haven't seen Blue Noise WORLD'S END, please do yourself a favor, it's really really good and it imitates multiple of it's official Pacca Pacca Passion charts haha

Just stumbled upon this channel. It's always great to have more people learn more about Chunithm, and this video is a great introduction to World's End charts. A few things I'd like to point out: Kanji translations: - 撃: Rather than "Beat" (as in the word 撃つ [utsu], which can mean "to beat"), it's probably easier to translate this to "Geki", which is a possible reading of the Kanji. As you've mentioned, these charts emulate the original Ongeki charts. - 舞: Similarly, this one can be translated to "Mai", a possible reading of the Kanji. These charts also emulate their original Maimai charts, though it might not be as obvious. This comparison video might help: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qaOZnIt_bdmIfaM - 覚: Rather than "Awakening" (as in the word 覚ます [samasu], which means "to awaken"), "Memorise" is probably more fitting (as in the word 覚える [oboeru], meaning "to memorise"). General comments: - For the BBKKBKK 戻 chart, it might have been better to use footage that used the more traditional hand motions, rather than the (admittedly very effective) cheese. - For the 覚 chart, I thinking showing gameplay with hand footage might be useful, since it's quite hard to figure out what you're supposed to do from the chart video alone, if you've never seen such a chart before. - It would have been great to include Taiko footage for "Taiko Drum Monster", just like how you included Ongeki footage for the 撃 chart. - The player in the 速 chart had his speed set to SONIC, so naturally it would appear fast. I think showing the chart video would more clearly show the gimmick of "Every 'Maware!' speeds up the chart by 3%": kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZDYnpWQlrR3sKM Once again, great video! It's always great to introduce Rhythm Games to a wider audience.

" 蔵"is a chart that could not be implemented as a regular score. In Japan, those that were nominated but not adopted are called お蔵入り"Oshori-iri" (kept in storage).

the main gimmick they frequently do with Light charts is replacing Holds/Slides with stacks of EX-Tap notes that are 0 frames apart instead, making it a rub fest

Idk if it was mentioned here, but also ive heard somewhere (don’t know how accurate it is) that in CHUNITHM Air all previously made worlds end charts were scrapped and they made new ones. I don’t know if it is true or if it makes a difference because it’s the third release version of the game so it’s not that far along but still I guess
