I remember the first time Andrew took me through COTM, that amp room was all crown microtechs. It was loud in that room. LOL love the video guys. Brings back lots of memories from SEEDS and celebrate with family.

While I agree with the advice given to "fix it at the source", the reality for maybe 90% of churches is, you have no control over the source. Almost every church I've worked at, has 1 option for mic capsules, guitarists bring one guitar and have no alternates, drums can't be "swapped for different sounding drums", etc. I know you guys have other videos talking about how to get better vocals, etc., but it can be helpful to point those things out in these videos too. Maybe ask the person, "how would you tackle those vocal mix problems if you couldn't just grab a different capsule?" It can be helpful for people to get new ideas on how to solve the problems they face at smaller churches with smaller budgets. Thanks, and keep up the good work!
@collabworship2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip. The good news is, fixing things at the source doesn't always mean getting new gear. It also means checking microphone placement, tuning drums, adjusting the knobs on the guitar, etc. So, even if you can't swap out gear, you should still start at the source.

Cool stuff. Really eye opening to me personally and it really motivates me to keep a steady conservative mindset with tech gear at my church. This video hits home for me in so many ways only because their classic children’s ministry raised and trained me spiritually. I grew up with the KOTM children’s ministry at my parents church and remember entire KOTM children’s curriculum from the late 80s and all through the 90s aka The Gospel Bill Show, Ken Blount’s children’s music videos, The Zion 7 Report, Rover Comer the Faith Dog, The Green family puppet ministry, etc…Willie George’s children’s ministry shaped and developed my own spiritual foundation that I still carry with me to this day. I recall they were at one time the on the cutting edge of developing children’s ministry curriculum for the masses. My church to this day still uses their classic curriculum to train and build up the younger generation.

Is it useful too use Trim function? I am not really up to date with this function, but some people told me that trim does not effect the monitor mix, so I wonder if it will be useful to activate it so the musicians will not have a changing in ear mix while the first songs in sound check. I know we set it first, but often they do not wait or they just play that different and you can’t really use the first gain setting. Thanks 🙏🏻
@collabworship2 жыл бұрын
Trim and gain can be synonymous depending on what mixer you use. Even if they aren't, trim would be an extra layer of volume control (like a fader), but would not accomplish the same thing as gain (setting the preamp). The only time you should need to make a gain adjustment after the beginning of rehearsal is if a channel is peaking. If that's the case, make the adjustment and just let your musicians know.
@raphaeltschapek77202 жыл бұрын
Yeah, thats exactly my question. We use an Allen Heath console and there it is like a fader that not effects the monitor mix, but in Church we also have an X32 and there I am not sure if it works the same way.

34:12 Sennheiser transmitters going crazy....I don't know what it is about these Senns.....they are a nightmare in this day and age to keep interference free. The Shure (digital) counterparts don't seem to have this issue at all.
@johnathanbasquez2 жыл бұрын
We’ve never had issues with our Sennheiser transmitters and we have 5 large auditoriums with them. Properly deploy them and they’ll work. The “craziness” you see, is audio being pushed to the transmitters. The console was in virtual playback.

Why have automated front light when you have catwalk access? Are you moving your band/front line that much? Love your look.
@johnathanbasquez2 жыл бұрын
I appreciate it James. My friend Bryan helped get this front light setup and this was his goal. We added the leko to add some fill to the front so we can do the encores at different intensities to get a more dynamic front light vs a really flat one for worship. Also, helped make the field wider for the singers that move a lot.
@johnathanbasquez2 жыл бұрын
COTM has always had a dynamic front light and scenic look. Which we still shoot for in a more modern way.
