NO better way to destroy and infect something than from within. 'Let your ambition be the achievement on earth of a heavenly civilisation' [Bahai writings in the 1800s]

I am so sorry for the young man and painful to imagine what was done to him which caused his sudden death. It was horrible. That Symth was a very dangerous man. The Church should have intervened to stop him. If only people would listen to those who complain about such abuses. Listening to what someone is saying in any place, no matter who it is, is important.

Its disgusting that he was allowed to do missionary work in Zimbabwe. He was funded and had the support of the church, yet they knew he was a danger to children. They let it slide because he decided to leave. We Africans are done with forgiveness.

Brother, spread the word on the ground in Africa to fellow Africans... otherwise this will keep on happening.

Take time to read the Makin report. So many guilty. Difficult to express in words how this was allowed over such a long time. So many knew and did nothing.

I send condolences and compassion to you on the terrible abuses the church covered up and that the result was the death of your brother. What happened to not warn the church in Zimbabwe about this dangerous man. Thank you for talking out in this intev.

I'm so sorry Edith. He was a disgusting animal. When his abuse was uncovered in the UK he was just allowed to leave the country and abuse elsewhere. He should have been jailed.

Edith so sorry for the loss of your brother . That is painful . May his soul rest inPeace , Very sad that he was allowed to go to Zim as a missionary . How many victims are there in Zim? Are they receiving counselling? What is the Anglican Church in Zim saying? This is very painful.

Not so simple. That A-hole was some kind of narcissist or sociopath. He was beating the sh*t out of his own son. He was an evil hate-filled man hiding behind the church.

I deeply regret what happened! He should have been halted at the first instance! I welcome Justin Welby did apologised but it could have been prevented - if we had the sense to stop him when he could have been! It's no good offering platitudes, the Archbishop of Canterbury soon to stand down should have reported Smyth to the Police! And offer such an apology is too late. I'm not disgusted enough to retire as a Church Chorister, I see I have a duty to guide through difficult, dark tunnels! I remain on post as a Church Chorister. It will not be easy. Of that I can be certain.

Sickening. It's abhorrent that a man who was part of a religious org was responsible for the death of a 16 year old boy. Absolutely disgusting, that poor sweet boy.

This is terrible news, her brother deserved a lot better. The hierarchy of the CofE should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves and the people who enabled John Smyth should be sacked.

bet he had a perfectly clean conscience too. this is what happens with a god "forgives EVERYTHING". people like this act a fool then dump their guilt on their invisible friend like its nothing. dangerous people abuse these systems regularly cause on top of everything, you're given a certain level of trust just for holding some labels.

The Church of England protected this evil bastard! I feel sorry for John’s family . They have true remorse for his evil deeds. Arch bishop of Canterbury has NO conscience! Bishop of Newcastle has a conscience! She stood out and demanded what has right!

The Church has, from the onset, never been about worshipping God but following the desires of the clergy. It is high time time Christians repent and embrace the only TRUE RELIGION, Islam.
