I remember a video, with some examples for typical sound systems. The Christian band uses in ear monitoring, every musician has its own personal mixer, the secular band uses the classical system with monitor speakers what usually affect the public address sound.

I was there this morning. Let me tell you, the AV team here has it dialed in! I’ve been a guitarist in P&W for years, learned a great deal in the audio part, and I’ve never heard anything as good as the mix here, church or otherwise. It is very difficult to have the volume they have here without feedback issues or unwanted reverbs and/or acoustic noise. It is not just hearing the music here but you can feel it in your chest. Punchy is an understatement.Well done, well skilled, praise the Lord!! ❤

I’d like to see some churches that are operating on a more modest budget. Not using the same gear they’ve had since the 1970s, but just something more realistic for a lot of us.
@southunion62102 жыл бұрын
It's kinda the same stuff just small scale. Similar to movie sets. I have seen crews that were 50 people but at the same time we have dont films with 5 people. You would just combine a lot of positions. Switcher person would be the Director also. Cameras would be white balanced ahead of time because there is no Shader person. 2-3 cams instead of 9. 1-2 Screens and no video wall. Simpler lighting setup for a smaller stage. Audio engineer would do FOH as well as broadcast and monitors. etc.

I think they mean, find churches that are creating good content with more affordable gear. Of course anyone can make good looking and sounding content if they have $1M+ worth of gear.

@southunion62102 жыл бұрын
Oh I’m with ya on what was asked. I guess my point is that yes they have the budget and doing things on another level but it the same stuff just scaled and I tried giving example on the differences. We have a 3 camera setup but instead of 3 operators they are PTZ cameras. It’s basically 4 of us handling everything. If the team grew would have camera operator. All things that are combined would eventually become separate stations. Lighting person would get a computer, video wall would get a separate PP7 computer. You could use $1000 cameras instead of $8000 cameras with $4000 lens etc. as for them touring those churches it would not be entertaining as this video is because they are showing what is possible and I use it to pickup ideas on the execution and not so much the budget. We don’t need a huge storage full of gear we only have one church. We do however have like 12 mics and a digital mixer and learning how to get manage those mixes is a tip to pickup. How they organize things, the camera angle choices, the concept of being able to patch signals wherever you want are all achievable things on a regular budget.

Just for fun, a different viewpoint: Our band plays at one of the better equipped Catholic churches in Hungary. This means that unlike most churches, we have amplification! Explanation: Most churches only employ one organist, or have a band that are playing acoustic guitars, violins, flutes etc. and choir with no amplification. We have no drums, only cajon + percussion, because the acoustics in these several hundred year old churches = 10 seconds long reverb built in! Very little electric guitars because the congregation would find rock sounds a heresy. (I'm not complaining about that. Don't upset the congregation.) We have 15 to 30 minutes before the mass to set up the entire band and sound system in church. 2 or 3 onstage monitors for the whole band ('onstage' except there is no stage). 5 mics total: lead, background vocals, one for violins, one for flute and clarinet, and one for cajon. The fact that we have an iPad controlling the Behringer mixer is almost the height of snobbery compared to other churches, or considering that a few years ago we only had a 4 track analog mixer. A single webcam is running nonstop to stream the services online.

He mentioned they swap from 24fps to 60 mid service. I'm curious how they deal with the video walls and the refresh rate mismatch? If they aren't, wouldn't they have a big problem with rolling black lines in the cameras? Follow up would be great to hear on this.
@jackstephenson52382 жыл бұрын
Towards the end of the video they say that the cameras handle all of those issues internally.
@SixStringGrace2 жыл бұрын
@@jackstephenson5238 This isn't something the camera can "handle". The screens are running at a certain refresh rate. If the cameras aren't at the same rate, or a multiple of it, you will see rolling black lines in the camera. I would guess that they have to change the screen at the same time as they change the cameras, but I was curious how they were doing that as it's not usually as simple as changing one setting. Maybe the switcher they use can do it on the fly, which would be cool. Our switcher (ATEM 4m/e) can't do it.

All this tech at Flatirons, and yet we got shut down last week by a kid in Kids Ministry! Last week during our 9 am service a kid pulled a fire alarm and everything got shut down. We literally pulled out two speaker stands and Pastor Ben preached from between them. P&W was acoustic, and it became a really intimate service. It was seriously awesome, and I would encourage kids to pull fire alarms bi-annually. :)

While this is cool, and an awesome setup I see a gross amount of overspending. Now that’s just my personal opinion. Obviously I do not know the church intimately but from the outside looking in the large amount of spending throws up a lot of red flags. Coming from a church of 4,000 active members that produces a fairly large tech production this level of spending would never fly. We constantly choose to forgo the newest and greatest tools and instead send that money out into the community. I’m sorry I just can’t see how the extra money spent glorifies the kingdom.
@MGort-bb8op2 жыл бұрын
Nicely said.. the same way I feel as well. If I had to quess the overall worth would be something like 5 mil dollars. For a weekly production its fine, but as a church.... in my opinion, no..

I am a member of this congregation, and I can't speak to your opinion on this exact question with any expertise. I can only speak to it from what I know in other areas. From the day we broke ground for this building we have been known for making the dollar go a long way. Rather than building, we "popped the top" of a Walmart and Albertsons, and you will see that the building both inside and out is not extravagant, even down to the small staff offices. I can't remember the figure, but the amount spent per square foot was far below the average for other churches, to the extent that other churches are using what we did as a model. All that being said, I would encourage you call or email in and ask what percentages were spent where. We are known for having a very transparent budget. Plus, I would really like to know myself!
