Others may not realise but Dunkirk is engrained in the British consciousness. Nothing epitomises better who we want to be than the spirit of those civilians crossing the sea to rescue those soldiers.

Yeah to this day I still watch it countless times and listen to the banger and beautiful soundtrack by Hans Zimmer! Yeah I remember when I first watched this movie back in 2017 and still love it to this day!❤

This is what great film editing, sound mixing and score can do with subtly intense performances captured by beautiful, naturalistic photography. Nolan weaved a masterpiece in this sequence.

@@innercircle341 you're right, the way the british government and private sector have run our public services into the ground, stagnated wages, lowered living standards currently and for future generations, exploded the national debt, and brought up inflation is dreadful! we've torn the welfare state the veterans of ww2 built after getting home to the ground by stripping its funding to the bone or selling it off in corrupt contracts, i'm sure they'd be very disappointed indeed.

This film makes brilliant use of small victories to keep you engaged despite how unrelentingly grim the overall picture is. After a full movie of listening for the Stuka sirens, when the RAF fighter (hurricane or spitfire I always get them mixed up) coasts in on fumes and lights the goddamn thing up I cheered! Like, standing up fist in the air and roaring at the screen.

The designer of the spitfire Reginald j Mitchell was born and lived in a terraced house 5 minutes from my house , butt lane stoke on Trent , I went to a school named after him , there is a plaque on the house where he lived

To give some context, in 1940 Britain and her Empire stood alone. Unready, technically bereft and bankrupt. The USA pushing to remain neutral, Russia in treaty with Germany Japan belligerent and Gandhi pushing for Indian independence. Within weeks of Dunkirk the Battle of Britain began
