Our morals have been derived from God and religion for centuries. Even if people do not identify with a religion - the greatest morals, laws, principles, and traditions that people have been taught, practice, and have gratitude for were and continue to be founded on religious values and outline our fundamental beliefs of right or wrong even if people are not conscious of it or are unwilling to acknowledge it.

i would also like to bear my testimony that i know the mormon church is a cult. i know that mormonism leaves a trail of oppressed souls where ever it goes. i know the history of mormonism is filled with murder and theft, as in mountain meadows massacre. i know mormons are ashamed of their history, and will do anything to cover up. as when e t benson did business with mark hoffman, the man who blew up people in salt lake city, in an effort to cover up the tracks leading to his forgeries. i have a testimony that if e t benson was a prophet of god he would not have done business with a murder/forger, and he would not have tried to hide hisotrical documents. i would also like to bear witness that the only spirit mormons ever feel comes froma bottle of valium, and utah women consume anti depressants by the gallon. amen

But to try and smear a church based on individual behaviors isn’t just incorrect, it’s a spirit of contention !’ I have nothing to prove by lying about this church !!!! These are good people !!! 5:26 "The greatest hope comes to people when they have something to look forward to. We all have challenges in life-great disappointments, or sickness, or injuries, maybe even deaths in the family. When one has an eternal perspective and he knows that there’s life after death, that the resurrection is real, that there are degrees of glory on the other side of this mortal life, then one can endure these challenges with a little more hope and great expectations." -President Russell M. I wonder how much she understood English. When she asked the initial question about mormons and the prophet answered that it was an epithet originally, and they prefer to use the name the Lord gave to them, namely Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, in one of her follow up questions she again used the term "mormon" without batting an eye. So I think she was just asking the prepared questions, but these questions were not necessarily friendly, and in fact one of them was really challenging near the end when she asked about pope and himself... and he treaded on water to answer how the pope prays for him and he prays for the pope, but there are theological differences. He rightly focuses on the things they have in COMMON. He is a uniter. He is a peacemaker, and he is doing a ton of good in the world obviously.

I absolutely believe you! But what i think he meant, is that if religion was non existant, we would stop knowing it. Of course, everyone wouldnt just suddenly turn evil, no. As long as this religion exists, we can, and will know! I am also an ex atheist, i used to pray, to never get answers, because i doubted and did not expect an answer. And i was therefore easily manipulated by the second voice, which is satan. He made me think it was all just a comforting lie, but a painful truth is almost always better. And that painful truth, was that i had committed many sins, and my pride was beyond what i understood. But as life got tough, i became humble again, and started to be more open minded. And from there, everything changed. I prayed, for the first time in my life, to know him, and i did. I got this undescribeable feeling of comfort and peace in me, and it was wonderful. Sorry that i went so off topic, just wanted to share this with you. It is truly amazing, and so unreal, yet completely REAL, how wonderful the lord and his spirit is.

I agree that there are morals and values in every belief, and non-belief, system, and every walk of life. I think President Nelson was explaining that everything good, uplifting, and wholesome comes from Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. Someone has to define right and wrong, good and bad. From there, it's our choice whether or not we want to follow 🙂👍

I'd ask President Nelson what spiritual ballast is applied to protect the church against those evil spirits who try to be part of the flock of the Heavenly Father ,but we do know are only making use of its name to take advantage of it.He must remember there´s no room in the kingdom of God for the hopeless sinner who would hurt all mankind just to save his own...( "For many be called,but few chosen" Matthew 20:16)

I was loving hearing the president's words until he said it was the enemies of the church who promoted the nickname Mormon and that it was negative. But during President Monson's administration, the church spent millions of dollars to publicize the church through this "nickname." I myself invited nonmember friends to watch the movie "Meet The Mormons" and also shared videos of people who told their stories and at the end said, "I'm a journalist, writer, housewife and I'm a Mormon." I support the pres. Russell M. Nelson as president of the church, but this subject bothers me a lot.

He was talking about originally - where the name came from. It was back in the days of Joseph Smith that enemies (or at least unfriendly outsiders) called us by that name. Over the years it stuck, until it became something we didn't pay much attention to. He's trying to change that. The point of the "I'm a Mormon" campaign wasn't to draw attention to the nickname, or to give it validity.. but rather to show people that we're just normal everyday people.
@RobbieIsbell
@RobbieIsbell 4 жыл бұрын
Why should it bother you? I clearly remember the campaign. But as a member of the church for 23 years, I have always felt that it is proper to call ourselves "Latter-day Saints." The campaign wasn't wrong in trying to "clean" up the name, but seriously...It always has been a sigma with the name, "Mormon."

@@sanaltmr well, if you read many apostles talks from the 1800s to now, many has always spoken and directed the members to use the full name. It was never President Nelson's opinion. D&C 114 has clearly stated that is what the Church should always be called as. I agree with President Nelson that perhaps it is time to move on from that because it is an international church, but the nickname will not go away and I am pretty sure the Prophet is aware of that. But with effort, we can do better to represent the Church as a full name. The name, Mormon, depending on whose perspective it comes from can either be bad or good.
