There is still hope interesting fact Dallas area rapid transit authority utilizes mechanical crossing bells on almost all of their railroad crossings they consist of reused and recycled crossing bells from the class 1 railroads they are a great light rail system to catch and let's not forget the tourist railroads they still utilize mechanical bells on their crossing to maintain their classic heritage So all is not lost for the mechanical crossing bell they will be around for many more years to come maybe not from the class ones but probably the tourist railroads as well as a few commuter lines such as Dart

Shortlines and tourist railroads will certainly keep mechanical bells alive for a long while, not to mention the bells in personal collections and museums. DART is quite unique in their love of mechanical bells, too!
