What's great about Chvrches is these songs work with out all the synthpop effects, and layering. This particular album is more than introspective than ever. Her vocals are as outstanding as ever, and it's refreshing to hear her not fight through all the synth pop.
@cowpercoles1194 Жыл бұрын
Yes, it's a testament to the strength of the songwriting that these songs are so powerful, even when stripped of their synthpop ornamentation.

Love the layers of synthpop ;-) But yeah the acoustic stuff on it’s own is also great. Maybe just me, but absolutely love when Lauren and Martin sing together.

I've never heard the term elevated souls but it's beautiful and perfect way to describe the group!
@adamhardy86903 жыл бұрын
I like it but at times her tone or pitch, whatever the pros call it, is hard to listen to. I suppose that adds to the 'hurt' within the song but grates a bit. Would be nice to soften that sound (just a friendly bit of feedback, most will no doubt disagree with me, not major criticism). Does remind me of the sound of a moaning girlfriend ;), but no doubt she had good reason to moan!
@mhdz103 жыл бұрын
@@adamhardy8690 no problem, always open to good criticism (you naughty boy haha). I think she has a style on her own. I really enjoy it. I feel these guys are really into a different level of spirit, despite of the fact that they see themselves as electro punkers. On the other hand I couldn´t listen to them all day long as with any other artist. But when I do it, I really enjoy it.

It's incredible to hear a pop artist very typically auto-tuned and using a lot of effects still sing beautifully clean like this.
@davidbrooks82183 жыл бұрын
@@LeniTV Yeesh, ok, auto tune like. She has a great voice.
@iaingraham72762 жыл бұрын
@@LeniTV sorry to disagree, but it probably is. Autotune can correct pitch so it sounds natural, or it can be used for pretty extreme vocal effects.Like most or at least many “serious” musicians, I own the full Antares package for use in my studio, which includes autotune and their other vocal effects. You’re right that If it sounds badly pitch corrected, it’s probably a cheap imitation plug-in. But if it sounds deliberately artificial in a way that fits the music, there’s a decent chance it is autotune or at least an accompanying Antares plugin, or a combination of both. By no means are “all” pop tunes produced using autotune. Some voices are plenty good enough and sound worse when you mess with fixing the exact pitch. And some producers will use Melodyne or some other godawful difficult to use bit of software to manually correct the odd note…

There's probably something artistic about 'How Not To Drown' and words: 'Tell', 'Me' and 'How' are like floating up to surrface in bubble and sound as the bubble collapse. Although when I try to repeat this singing after her, an uncomfortable feeling of those words being suspended and torn of the text is created. I love this song as one of the Chvrches' uniques. I'd love to know wich of the songs is Lauren's favorite, combining melody and lyrics. After a long love story with Chvrches music, I think mine is
Miracle
Chvrches in their collective entirety are supremely talented in their craft. Fantastic songwriting, where the songs work superbly stripped back as well as in full on heavy synth mode. Extremely competent mastery of their respective individual skills. Jonny an excellent addition with live drums in recent years. Yes, Lauren is fantastic but the whole band are fantastic and the sum of their parts is greater than their individual parts. These guys are starting to get the recognition they deserve now and well deserved it is. Their is a long and successful road ahead for them, there is no doubt.
