Love is inevitably dead. in any relationship there is always one of pure heart and one of emptiness. No matter who you started off as before a relationship it will end as a matter of fact and it will leave you a dead or cold person inside as a matter of fact. After one broken heart it’s impossible to feel pure love because a broken heart never heals.

[Verse 1: Matt Berninger] I got no more time to hear what you think about me Because all your words are so cold, so callous, so clean In the moment you could be honest, you could wake up, up But your jealousy is more blind than luck [Chorus: Lauren Mayberry] And you could be my enemy And you could be my judge If you could start remembering all the time that you used up And you could be my remedy If you could show me love If I could stop remembering all the time that you used up [Verse 2: Matt Berninger] I got no more time to hear who you think we should blame Because all your words are so vile, so vicious, so vain In the end, we did all the damage that you could want, want But the emptiness will go on and on [Chorus: Lauren Mayberry] And you could be my enemy And you could be my judge If you could start remembering all the time that you used up And you could be my remedy If you could show me love If I could stop remembering all the time that you used up

In the music video for "Get Out", Matt Berninger from The National put up a poster on a lamppost, after which the camera showed a phone number that you could call. If you called it, Mayberry would say part of the lyrics from My Enemy. "I got no more time to hear what you think about me Because all your words are so cold, so callous, so cold I got no more time to hear you think who we should blame Because all of your words are so vile, so vicious, so vain"

Heard this on the way to Church this Morn 6/10/18.. Been separated for 2 years. Sure hit home for me. Buuuuuuuut Faith in Jesus Christ has been keeping going, learning, peace, joy, love. All that He has been providing. I know I'm not the only one going through this. I say to you let Jesus Christ carry those hurts, thoughts, mental, heart pain. We can not live carrying all that. Let Him do that and speaking out of experience, He will restore everything in you, in me. Faith Love Hope But the greatest of all these is Love.

This sounds and feelings as terrifying and exhilarating as a loop into infinity, of past actions impossible to return to an undone state. Loves on hold, buried throughout, or not approached, staying quiet and unrequited until the trembling warmth shatters through the delay that can be placed. Life, I have learned, and still do, has Love. It can be found as easily as it's lost. It can also return. Letting go of hanging on has allowed for healing. This song snaps me back to how that ever is. Wide, this melody...
@djpanther96216 жыл бұрын
Ian and Doko nailing the electronica once again, and Lauren (and Matt) providing the perfect accompaniment. I wonder who does their fantastic melodies? Is it the boys again, or is Lauren also involved in that side of things? Anyhoo, there's something about this band - they've got their own unique magic dust over that 8os vibe...keep sprinkling please 😊
@lightsfans52966 жыл бұрын
DJ Panther the melodies are Dok & Iain. Lauren is actually the one member who is not a trained musician (journalism & law degrees) but obviously she’s a natural lyricist.
@djpanther96216 жыл бұрын
Aha ok thanks Lights Fans. And yes, having lived in Scotland for many years, should really have got Iain's name right there - as depeche said 'it's nae good'. Well what a perfect combo eh. Those lads can clearly write a tune, and I love how you can hear Lauren's accent in her singing (although possibly less as time goes on?). Seeing Chvrches for the first time in Barna this year, can't wait! Also for the between-song banter - Lauren clearly is on another planet, the way her mind operates - so naturally funny - she really should do a one-woman show at the Edi Fringe some time 😊

I much prefer CHVRCHES' slower paced, more atmospheric tracks. In fact, what their second LP needed was more slower paced tracks because I think too many 'bouncy' tracks are like eating a bag full of sugar. You need to vary the pace and break up the songs and bring things down. This is gorgeous - absolutely love the vintage synth sounds.
