I'm currently doing my PhD on Bd so decided to look it up on KZbin just to see if there was anything useful. I clicked this video cos I figured a general refresher never hurts, and played it in the background while I worked on some charts. When you mentioned that you studied it for your PhD I was like "hold up what", cos I figured I must've read your work, so I scrolled down to the description and saw "Dr Whitney Holden" and immediately went "Oh! Holden!". I've read a whole bunch of papers on Bd that you're an author on & immediately recognised your name haha. I had no idea you make KZbin videos about biology! Super cool! Thanks for this video, it was exactly the refresher I needed :)

I'm studying immunology and I have to learn about fungal infections. For whatever the reason I am also learning about chytrids, but hearing you say that you also have videos about human pathogenic fungi is a relief to me. Thanks so much!!

Thank you so much for making these videos. They're extremely helpful when I'm studying for a test, or don't quite understand a certain topic. I'm homeschooled, and I'm currently taking biology on my own, so I don't have a teacher to look to when I'm confused. I'm very grateful to have these videos to come to when I need help. ♥

This is a great topic, and it was interesting to hear about your research. I had heard that fungal disease is causing amphibian extinctions but I was able to learn a lot more details from this lecture, thanks.

Nice video. My old Goodman and Gilman pharmacology text states that 2% acetic acid can kill fungi, bacteria and protozoa. That might be less hazardous to breathe than bleach if still effective . What growth media did you use?

Thank you Dr.Holden for the lecture ! The " chytrid fungus " seems to have a (cyclo-propagative life cycle) , i.e: metamorphosis + proliferation . But it lacks sexual reproduction during " sporogony " , rather frequent mitotic divisions ===> creating kind of multinucleated giant cells ; followed by cellular cleavage . So no " alternation of generations " or " genetic diversity " takes place ! That devastating disease among the amphibious species seems to be altering the ecosystem balance ===> proliferation of pests controlled by the affected amphibian species . That would eventually have a negative impact on man grown crops & food supply in future ! Lord knows best !

Well said.

this is the asexual reproduction cycle hence the "zoosporangium" the sexual cycle would result in the same structure but referred to as the "gametangia", is this correct?
