I've got a Morris Japanese jazz copy and it sounds fantastic. New frets and neck shimmed and it's all good. My daughter is 13 and loves watching you, she is a quiet shy teenager but loves her bass playing. I got her a vox bassmaster really thin neck but sounds good.

Nice jam Miss Cici!! Just a word of advice on "stealing" Dave's guitars. As soon as touch Mr. White, Mr. Red or any of the Oswald's, Dave will "feel" the disturbance in the Force and you're busted. LOL!! 🤣

Hi Cici, you're saying at 01:23 Dave has whittled down the neck from a baseball bat to a kindling. Would this work with a thick guitar neck, too? Is there any risk that the neck can bend afterwards, go out of tune sooner etc.? I have a spare Ibanez Roadstar neck that's way too thick with a black paint layer on it and it may need this kind of treatment. Thanks :-)
@carpediemarts705 Жыл бұрын
Posted my question about neck trimming and then saw yours. I imagine if there's a truss rod, you would have to dig pretty deep to ruin the neck. Probably a question you could get a good answer from a luthier or repair shop quicker.
@konstantin_lv Жыл бұрын
@@carpediemarts705 thanks, meanwhile a luthier has worked on my Roadstar neck, but another way around, he had to file down 1.5 mm of my...hmm, slightly ruined fretboard. I butchered the refret job a couple years ago. I'll see how it has turned out some weeks later. 😃 So technically the neck has been slimmed down 😁

So what tools did Dave use to whittle down his neck with? I hate beefy Rickenbacker and Stingray necks and theorized I could stand one if I trimmed it down to an Ibanez/Washburn profile. I considered a hand held belt sander w 36 grit.

I am now only buying Japanese basses and guitars. That bass looks exactly like my 75 Fender Jazz except mine has white inlays and white binding. I have my vintage Fender P and J's and even my first bass I got when I was 13, a 66 Gibson EB-0. The last 2 years I have been buying nothing but late 70's to mid 80's basses and guitars.I am almost 60 now and I have enough vintage instruments. I like getting those Aria Pro ll,Westone, Westbury and Ibanez instruments for fairly cheap with maybe something wrong with them and fixing them up. By working on them I am realizing some of them are just as any Fender or Gibson and sometimes better. I still love those big brand names but I will not spend the money for them, unless it's cheap because something needs to be fixed. I am not the headstock snob that I used to be, a good guitar is a good guitar no matter what it says on the headstock.

That ending with Dave: Dave, after having ironically cried his heart out, immediately begins to lay plans to steal that Ibanez Explorer-esque guitar of Carina's that he's so chuffed about... Hmmm... the plot thickens...

An actual Fender MIJ (80s to mid 90s) 62 reissue P bass (which was better than any USA Fender bass at the time) from the Fujigen factory (which made the best Fender MIJ's, they made J basses to) was cheapish (for what it is) until recently. You used to be able to get them for £500, I've heard ones that sound better than Fender usa custom shop basses that cost £4000 infact I've A B'd them with 1960's fenders in shops that are worth £11000+ on several occasions and have preferred the Fujigen Fenders. I think the cats out the bag in these now, but if you can still scoop one for a reasonable price, it may be worth it.

Cici I have a Columbus that is better than any Fewnder I have seen. I have a Grant that is fantastic too. People don't understand that if they source the right one what they are missing. The 70's guitars were AWSOME. I have fenders and all but these are Japans best. Columbus and Grant's Rock. (non plywood of course)
