I think it's that he had to face that he was out matched and he looked for anything that could reenforce his delusion and thus trigger himself. I don't think he actually cared, I think he just used it for the situation. Tricking himself that he cared for the moment because it benefited him. I've done the same thing in certain situations. Like when I was in cross country and track, I'd imagine the person in front of me as the guy responsible for everything wrong with me, then I'd run so much harder. Then when I cought up, I just transferred that delusion to the next guy. If I was in first place, I'd switch my mentality to that of an elitist and force my temporary delusional superiority onto the other students and run so hard it caused serious injuries. But I won. I believe Jeff did something similar. Mind you, this is just a nicely animated music video and it probably was intended to be the way you stated, but that the beautiful thing about perspective. It allows for more than one. This is simply what I saw in this example. Also, that whole mental switching thing, I learned better control over it and now I can be whatever I need for nearly any situation. But you can't use what you don't already have. I can only use existing pieces of myself and remove certain characteristics to alter the effect. It works great when you're having a PTSD induced meltdown.

EDIT: For a little more info on the character, there was no Girl in the original story when Jeff and Slenderman fought each other, so she’s not a representation of anyone. Her name is also “Punishment” but her internet User is “P4perCake” (I got both of these information from the beginning and end of the video) I assume she’s a Bounty Hunter (or “was” since at the end she dies, so maybe she was just a random civilian with… Demon Powers?) who hunts after Creepypastas like Jeff with maybe a Team of some sort Hope I helped.. well.. *someone* with this
