Thanks for your question. This is a Roma dance and it's specific origin, in my searching, is not clear. I'm sorry I can't give you a better answer.

Thanks for replying, Henry. A folk dance friend and expert in Balkan music and dance said that this dance is from the Sop region of Bulgaria.

This isn't from any specific region just because it's not a folklore dance. It made by choreographer. You have a dance ,made for this rhythm. Noone know why it named gypsy dance.
