I'm just starting to build Cigar Box guitars and everything is new to me. The only thing that is familiar is the electricity of the guitars and the things related to it. Thanks for the good and educational videos. These have helped me get started really well.👍😊

So cool! Great idea to decorate the boxes. I love the matchbook neck. I originally thought they were real matchbooks! By doing it that way, you can save the matchbook forever! Nice!
@paulmerojunkpileguitars6 жыл бұрын
74dart man and the thickness of the original matchbooks makes for a problem unless you're using jumbo fret wire.

This is one of the best looking CBGs that I have ever seen. If you don't mind I'll try this myself. Was thinking about cutting the slots for the frets, then gluing the matchbox and using the knife to open up the slots then installing the frets. Too much cutting makes me anxious.
@paulmerojunkpileguitars5 жыл бұрын
Rom C that would certainly work. Get as much filing done on the frets as you can before setting them in to avoid tearing up your matchbooks. They make a fretboard protector that has a gap for the fret when filing. I’ll post a bit on one. Thanks for watching and keep your eye on Scott H Biram. He has this guitar.

Great information thank you! When you print out that nice Church Point graphic for the box, is that just on a special card or good paper?

Thank you for the video Could I use the Matte Mod Podge on top as well, let it dry then use an oil based polyurethane to make it look glossy?

Just wondering if decal paper will work for more of a collage layered look over a painted box?? Great vid.. My mom used to decopage everthing.. So i learned when i was little.. but the printer idea is great...
@joehunter45034 жыл бұрын
This may have been addressed, but why use Mod Podge on the box and the water slide decal for neck? Would it be OK to use Mod Podge on all?

Hi Ken, At the end you sprayed a coat of gloss. How do you clean up the fretts after spraying them? Good explanations on your videos. Thanks.

awesome video Thanks!! have you done graphics on a fretless CBG? if so is it the same method? what would you use if you wanted that vintage ,old yellow look on your graphics? Thanks so much
@paulmerojunkpileguitars6 жыл бұрын
The Unwanted TV Fretless would be much easier. Just end to end the matchbook decals. Aging could be done a number of ways. Playing with the contrast and hue on the computer, mixing just a tad of yellow titebond in the modpodge or even doing something like laying the graphic in your rear window deck in the car to let it fade or expose it to a smokey fire.
@gigawattgraphics8215 жыл бұрын
Could this be done with vinyl decals direct to the box/neck to avoid the paper prints and mod podge?
@paulmerojunkpileguitars5 жыл бұрын
Gigawatt Graphics if you have the setup it would actually be the best way. Like the stickers that work on a hydro flask would work on the lid. The matchbooks on the neck are best thin decals. What is the cost be sheet to someone who would have to order the work out. Email me let’s talk if you’re a vendor

Love your methods and the guitar too. QUESTION: Where do you find that type of cutter? I have the old fashioned type of paper cutter, but it's hard to use on something that doesn't have right angles and yours holds the paper down for the cut too, if I'm not mistaken.
What type of paper do you use for the graphic on the box top?

Are your match book covers from your collection? Or, did you find them (any of them) from an online collection? Do you “trade” graphics with others?

Love your builds and videos. I'm inspired to make my own guitar. Take it from an artist... you should check out Earl Lube Paste (acrylic based) instead of Mod Podge (PVA based... i.e. wood glue) for your art installation. Earl Lube is non acidic and more flexible... much better for doing art work.

What is the advantage of Modpodge matt instead of using Titebond wood glue which seems to work well for me?

None

why glue water slide decal ?
@paulmerojunkpileguitars7 жыл бұрын
bobby buenno it’s Mod Podge. If you’re asking why not just water? That answer is durability. The edges don’t come up. If you’re asking why decals and not the matchbook? That answer is the thickness of the matchbooks necessitate the use of taller/bigger fret wire = higher action and we have enough problems with that on these cbgs without adding to the problem.
