The Cincinnati zoo was a big part of my early childhood, and now that we finally moved back it's nice to visit the place I grew up in ♥️

I used to see little blue penguins all the time growing up in New Zealand. They'e very personable birds, and I've always loved them. I'm glad they're getting treated well over in the states!

I've never been to the Cincinnati Zoo, but this video just made visiting it a priority next time I'm in Ohio. You guys clearly have your act together, and your commitment to providing high quality of life for the animals, a very impressive degree of sustainability, and maximum accessibility and safety for guests is great to see.

Hi Thane! Love the zoo,I’ve visited many times while in town. I have a question about the elephants. Do the babies eat dung from their mother like I’ve seen African elephants do? Thank you.

I like that we got roos in Cincy and its a nice habitat, but this is the same as the Columbus Zoo ...no petting and no feeding...just walk along a path?...sucks. These are my favorite animal. So, l will make it worth my while to still go to KY Down Under where you can pet and feed the roos.🦘 * At the 5:40 mark ya got roo poo lol ...they cut away real quick 😆

Do you release live fish and squid into their pools so they can actually do what they do when they are swimming in the wild?
@shadechaser27044 жыл бұрын
Yes, they do give them live prey to chase, though not daily. They have to make sure the penguins get all they need and making them rely only on live prey would mean some would get to eat a larger share and others would suffer.

8:25 what kind of ducks do the penguins live with at roo valley
@kerrid.9794 жыл бұрын
Some of the penguins weren't penguins! Do they live at the zoo, or were they wild ducks that stopped for a swim?
@ajwwtsl38484 жыл бұрын
yay i saw them to what kind of ducks are they
@shadechaser27044 жыл бұрын
It's 3 pairs of ducks brought in to keep the penguins company. Wild ducks cannot get in with the Little Blues. New Zealand Scaup, Australian Wood Duck, and Freckled Duck are the species.

@joevollman4 жыл бұрын
Go to KY Down Under if you can drive down near Bowling Green KY. You can pet and feed them and they're nice down there. No fighting, just playfulness. I've been 3x. It is a small zoo though.

No Asian and Sumatran elephants
@alextepe43094 жыл бұрын
Yes. Sabu, the zoo’s male elephant, is a Sumatran elephant, and arguably the most genetically valuable elephant in the country.

Alex tepe true and sometimes they put her with the female but it never turns out good she can’t get pregant the Cincinnati zoo is named the sexiest zoo in America but not for elephants
@alextepe43094 жыл бұрын
Kevin Miller true, the last elephant birth was in 1998, and that calf, named Ganesh, has sadly since passed away. I know that it will take a few years, but if the Cincinnati zoo follows through on its master plan of turning its outdated elephant yard into a world class elephant habitat, it will be more suitable for breeding pairs. The zoo has been an important part of my childhood, and I hope my three young children will appreciate it as much as I do.

@shadechaser27044 жыл бұрын
Koalas are crazy expensive to keep fed. That would have been a poor financial decision if you're judging by that. It can cost over $1 million to feed koalas, compared to the CZBG most expensive animals to feed now being the manatees. Even when they had 4 manatees to keep fed it was $185,000/per year. That is way, way less than just keeping one single koala.
