The lack of the feather makes it really feel like a past version of her before she added some smaller details onto her outfit. Also the trim of her dress!

It was a decent design. In fact, most of her older designs were great, and she used to be one of my favorite characters in the show. But since volume 5 I absolutely hate her, the writers ruined her…

Honestly, I like the "student" or "past" Cinder look more than her cocktail dress outfit. She feels and, to me, looks younger. She actually looks like she would fit in as a transfer Huntsman student when the Infiltration Arc begins. It might even make more sense for why she doesn't win as often (in a better written show). This Cinder would be maybe a few years older than the main cast, in her prime but not quite outgrown her teenager phase quite yet. She's got training, probably somewhat on par with the main cast, but she is still focusing on the Maiden powers to win fights - perhaps? She is still an eager young woman, hungry for the power she believes she deserves yet doesn't quite have the wisdom or skill to beat an elite Hunter like Qrow in a straight one-on-one without that same power. I would love to hear anyone's thoughts.

This definitely looks like a early version of Cinders cocktail dress outfit. Complete with painted nails, and high heels. And somehow being even shorter than what she usually wears. Though this is definitely what a student Cinder wears because she is even wearing bloomers shorts underneath it. Though if this was what a “student,” version of covers wears, it makes you wonder were her head was at when she was picking out her undercover student clothes. An interesting “prototype,” design. Though I’d argue it’s a little too closely similar to what she already wears.

@@wander1139 didn't she literally have a Grimm inside of her arm that was giving her the maiden powers? That thing came out of a glove originally, but she didn't have the glove when using the powers later, so the Grimm has to have merged with her to transfer the powers.

I always liked how cinder used two swords that became a bow. Made me think of clock hands cause of her Cinderella inspiration. Wish she kept it as part of her fighting style, but I get it they wanted to show that she was mastering her maiden powers by relying more on them than traditional weapons.

I'm not going to lie, my first contact with RWBY was me searching the images for a completely unrelated "hot cinder", and noticing what came up. As much flack her character got these days, she's special to me for introducing the series in the first place..

That shot is like 1/5th of a second. Its is during a fight, since it's really hard to make fights with no upskirt shots when a lot of tue characters wear skirts lol. It'd say it doesn't count and if it does it's definitely not in a sexy way, even if its cinder.

I mean I love both but (maybe this is my theif rpg class talking) I really miss her daggers and bow combos from that Era. Personally I love this design little more bc I felt like I can understand cinder better than what they made her later on to be and even her tactics like taking down amber or forcing adam to join them, even her wording when talking to adam, mercury and emerald for the 1st time felt like I can understand her and makes me more invested in her in this time period.
