I think a few of Ella's messier hairstyles are hairstyles that are meant to look like they started out as one hairstyle the previous day, and transitioned into another one by way of necessity. Through many hours of work, and lack of time, she possibly tumbled into bed at night and slept on them without taking them out. And then when she got up the next day, still still didn't take them out (e.g. a braid, a bun) and just pinned back the sections that got loose to save time. So you could try styling them like one style that got messy and then pin back the loose bits on top of it. I also noticed that her hairstyles appear to get more and more messy as the movie goes on.

Since visuals are suppose to enhance a story, Ella's hair definitely does that - from neat looking loose waves and braids to messy, unkept stylings and knots.

Really nice video, Bella! For the last hairstyle, I suspect that it's actually either a fishtail braid or a 5 or 6 strand braid done really messily.

this is so cute! one of the things i've seen other people do to achieve an artfully messy effect to braids, is to pull gently on some of the hair at the edge of the braid to sort of puff it up and give it the appearance of more volume. that might help for people with thinner hair who dont have extensions (like lily james almost definitely has in her styles for the film!)

I think that the hairstyle that she has before the last one is a mix of braids. Because you can see braids at the top and then everything going into one bigger braid at the back.

I see some other comments where they say they think that ending hairstyle is a fishtail braid and I would second that. Cuz that's almost exactly what my hair looks like if I do it loosely and then sleep on it for a night it two like when we're camping or traveling. It then takes what feels like a million years to brush it

Okay all of our hair dues are done up with either lace or fabric or tied up with her own hair my God. I love the fact that you're doing this however you need to get accurate. And it does give me a kind of a better idea of how she wears it reminds me too much of my curly hairdos that I used to wear. Please please please please stop using bobby pins.
