I just discovered Cindy, thanks Eric!!, and enjoyed the presentation from beginning to end. Her block-in and expressing the importance of composition points, then moving forward with creating shapes, maintaining details achieved with the block-in, then developing form & structure was captivating, along with her personality. Her technique is old world and a bit new school. Fantastic!! Thanks.

If you want to keep the underpainting wet for a long time for doing very large paintings/block ins, simply use walnut oil in place of gamsol. Keeping it thin of course.

This was just pure happenstance that I stumbled upon your wonderful video. Cindy...Your painting is absolutely beautiful. I agree with what you were saying about having to put the time and effort into painting. This applies to whatever genre a person decides to pursue. So thank you for sharing your knowledge. Also, the ups and downs of learning your craft. Best to you and yours. Warm Regards, Martina

I've studied everyone who's good. I think most artist keep q tips in their gear. Very common. I've also used and experimented with about every palette out there. One palette that I have used a lot is simply viridian and transparent oxide red, (white of course as well.) These two colors and white are perfect for tree portraits and live model work. I had a black haired model for years and seriously I could get a pitch black in the hair without being thick. I could also get a warm glowing yellowish in the background if I kept it fresh. It's all comparison , and with that in mind I could get the feel of blue as well. Pretty fast painting with some drawing skills and two colors.
