Drive through barrowford every day on my commute to work and back! Remember my grandad telling me pendle hill burst as it's full of water and every 50 years it breaks? Seeing those scenes of the aftermath with tonnes of mud everywhere makes you think when will it happen again?

I am sure this footage was shot by Ken Smith, Ken was the Scout Leader of 1st Barrowford Scouts and lived at Dixons Greengrocers in the centre of Barrowford. I am sure he showed us this footage when we were kids. Really brilliant film.

I’ve never seen or heard rain like that. It went on for about an hour and was Biblical in intensity. After it stopped raining, my Dad took us on a tour round Roughlee and Newchurch ( Barley was impassable). There was much devastation and the clear up went on for months. I always thought it had happened on August 7th, but all the archive I can find, says the 8th…

Whenever these great river floods happen there's always someone there with a camera who gets to film it, isn't there?! Well it's happened again TWICE in the last few years where I live and both times I missed it, I always do, it's always the same. And I've rafted that river all the way from barrowford to padiham in an inflatable dinghy, non stop, it took me three attempts. But don't anyone else try it as it's not something just anyone can do, you must know plenty about rivers and carry out a thorough survey of the river first under various conditions, and of course you must be able to handle the boat!
