@@MrDandyMoustachuThis just my own personal thought, I don't think the Red Queen was being sadistic. It didn't seem it had camera in the elevator, so it didn't realize that there's humans still alive until that woman squeezing through that open door. Red Queen probably want to drop the elevator right away, then realized they won't all die with that height, so it pull the elevator higher so they all die on impact. And about the lazer, rather than sadistic, I just think it probably just wanted to kill them with the first attack, but the kept dodging. It also remind me the increase difficulties in games.

The problem with personifying the a I computer is that it takes responsibility away from the creators and the profits that drove them.. It's definitely not the computer.That's the problem

Nowadays, it's considered to be a stock sound effect, but it had been used previously in several video games. The first time I remember hearing it was in the N64 version of Mission: Impossible. I believe it was also used in one of the Duke Nukem games, but one of the most prominent uses was in the original Perfect Dark. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if it was picked for this film specifically BECAUSE of the fact that at the time it was a little used stock sound effect that was used in several video games.

I saw this as a teen in theaters and remember being hung up about not being accurate to the games and we were "denied" George Romero's possible take on it. But over the years I came to appreciate it as a solid action movie in its own right. 2002 also gave us the much beloved Gamecube remake of the original Resident Evil, a game that still mostly holds up 20+ years later, and Resident Evil Zero.
@Enigma1788
@Enigma1788 4 күн бұрын
All things considered, you COULD have potentially made this film work with the original game with some very minor retcons that don't disturb the flow of the original game too much. It actually would have been very easy to slot it in as a prequel film, and up until the second film was released and went wild with its own continuity, I really don't think anyone would have batted an eye if Capcom turned around and said this was canon to the main continuity. Key things with the films: you have to approach them as their own continuity and throw your knowledge of the games out the window. I know that's sometimes far easier said than done, but I feel the film series is actually fairly enjoyable for the most part if you can do that.
@uburton
@uburton 3 күн бұрын
I think the first film was deliberately made as essentially a sub-plot to the games. That approach only lasted until the second film, though. That's probably one of the reasons that this one's my favourite of the films.

If you want to see a couple earlier roles from Milla Jovovich, I don't think you guys have seen Richard Linklater's "Dazed And Confused" yet. Honestly, that might've been the first thing she'd been in as she was transitioning from being a model into an actor, and she's basically a glorified extra in it, that is mainly there to look hot, but it's still a now classic comedy about 70s era Texas high-school, from the 90s, that you should see anyway. The other one is "Kuffs", which is a 90s action/comedy cop movie with Christian Slater, that's probably been largely forgotten, but I think is funny, and is just a real fun watch! She plays the love interest in that one, so still not like it's her movie, but it was a much bigger role for her at the time.

Can't believe I forgot that one! That's crazy how young she was! I had this idea that she was like a big model turned actress, but apparently her mother was a failed actress, and started trying to make her one, very young.

20:50 Yes they are referred to as 'lickers'. Their lance like tongues are said to be sharp enough to pierce through flesh and bone. They were first introduced in the original second game, where you had to engage them rather than elude them, even though their appearance suggested that the latter option is feasible. In later instalments of the game franchise (cgi movies included) and in the remake of Resident Evil 2, it has since been established that lickers could be evaded successfully, provided you don't make a racket of course.

It's funny that this movie came out the same year as the first Jason Bourne movie. You wake up, you don't know who you are...but you have skills in hand-to-hand and weapons! There's a Liam Neeson movie called "Unknown" that's similar in some ways. When you guys watched the first Fast And Furious, you seemed surprised that Michelle Rodriguez had so little to do. I guess Resident Evil (which came out the following year) was what made her an action star. She's been in at least fifteen, by my count. MIlla Jovovich has also been in several outside of this franchise. I consider them to be the two most prolific female actions stars working today. Scarlett Johanssen has only been in three action-hero roles outside of Marvel.

The second movie is...not great, but at least it finally introduces some actual [human] characters from the games. I actually think the third movie is the next best one, primarily because of Russel Mulcahy's directing. Paul W.S. Anderson returned for the 4th through 6th movies, but the plots just became more and more bonkers. They did have some cool individual scenes though. And I'm not sure how I feel about Albert Wesker in the films. The portrayal is accurate to the games, but the game character was ridiculous, so...
