My two favorite actors are Paul Newman and Denzel Washington. As much as I like Denzel Washington, I like Paul Newman a little more.

Actually I wanted to comment on the Biography Channel documentary but comments have been disabled. I interviewed Paul at the Advertising Club of New York where he was stumping for Senator Eugene McCarthy for president. It was the night Luther King was shot. I did not find Newman good looking in person. He was middle aged at the time but that said looked old. He was fat, short, short-waisted and balding if not bald (wore a topee) He was probably the coldest actor whom I ever have interviewed. It later has come out he was gay but clearly that doesn`t explain it as many gays are passionate and also like women. Newman was a cold cold guy and related in no way to my femininity. He conceded to confess in later years he was somewhat removed and emotionally withdrawn with family. Well, amen! If he was withdrawn with family imagine the way he was with the rest of us. He was not a bad actor not great but not bad. He was capable of learning and growing. The biographer who fronted the biography is a disaster. Why they choose people who probably never interviewed the subject and clearly don`t understand them..I`ll never understand..but then they get to write the books. If I ever get to do a Newman biography I`ll include a letter from my university English professor who says he had an affair with Newman. The professor sent me the letter following publication in `The New York Times` 1970 where in `Down With Myth America` I criticize Newman and Redford and the buddy-buddy film `Butch Cassidy`. At the time it was a shocking revelation but as time went by Newman seemed to be held to account and was (with male writers) infinitely more forthcoming than he was with me. One of the writers was an old boss of me, before I went freelance. HIs name was Leonard Probst. Leonard is Paul`s middle name. Probst interviewed Paul a few years after `Down With Myth America` appeared. Probst`s interview as post 1970. He thus cross-examined the actor about gayness and Newman cordially replied `Well Len I could play a gay but who would believe it?` Well I would, would have!

Maybe had some sociopathy or just very emotionally stunted due to his father's neglect but anyway I believe your account.
