740 diary entries, 227 reviews, 53 lists, 24,219 likes, 1,079 comments and 1,223.7 hours watched... I decided I'm gonna take things a bit slower in 2022. My most-watched actors were Takashi Shimura and Chishū Ryū (Kurosawa and Ozu regulars) with 7 movies each, with Dafoe, like always, creeping up just behind them. My most-watched director was Pedro Almodóvar at 9 films, with Kurosawa trailing by 1.

MERCY! That must’ve been an incredible year of cinema, but I understand the intention to take it slower in 2022. I suspect mine will be rather similar to last year.

I just have the email from letterboxd saying not much about my 2021 year in film. I'm not a pro. But what I got that's interesting is that my most-watched actor is Bill Murray and my most-watched director is Joel Coen. I'm not surprised.

Impressive stats, Nic. You clocked a lot more hours than I did. I don't know how I'll do this year either, but I still strive to watch a film a day-even if it's just a short.

I just checked out your Letterboxd page, specifically your Watchlist. Many you listed are on my watchlist as well. I've seen 5-10% of the films on your Watchlist. Many I have fond memories of, but don't know how I'd rank them today (The Big Picture, Clueless, To Die For, Wayne's World). Some I hated (Pretty Woman, Stalker, Touki Bouki) although they're classics and should be watched. Those I would recommend without hesitation: Almost Famous, The Bad & the Beautiful, Down with Love, The Empty Man, Kiss Me Deadly, Mrs. Miniver, Murder by Death, Whatever Happened to Baby Jane. Do you have Netflix? Two series I would recommend there are Midnight Mass and Squid Game.

While it isn't exactly the best thing to mention at the moment, and i would understand if you decided not to - You should watch the work of Russian Filmmaker Aleksey Balabanov and specifically his Collaborations with Sergey Bodrov. This is what the people of Russia truly see and it is so clearly expressed in his Art. And the tragedy surrounding Sergey Bodrovs death and the guilt Aleksey Balabanov felt behind it. There is a good lecture by (i think) a NY University about that. #StandWithUkraine
