My mother had 8 kids. She raised NONE of us! Pawned my oldest sister off on my grandmother and pawned me off on my father - who also didn't raise me. The other six were placed for adoption, all younger than me and my sister. We all have different fathers. My six siblings were all adopted by different families as well. She is a horrible, HORRIBLE woman! I have managed to find four of my six siblings so far. Two happy reunions, the other two are indifferent. I am still searching for the missing two. I live vicariously through this show and the happy endings.

I am so sorry that you have had to endure all that, no child should ever not feel the love and care of a mother. Some women are just not meant to be mothers, and not all mothers are nice people either. I hope your life is one long happy ending.

Often when people do that they are desperately searching for love yet they are hurting their kids so much. Personally, I'm ALL for forced sterilization after 2 kids you can't take care of (actually, I'd say 1) so they're not screwing up/abusing any more kids. My heart goes out to you Jessie & I hope you can find the missing 2 siblings & the 2 that were indifferent can open their hearts. I'm sure they have a LOT of fear to do that.

Simon being unpredictable is strange. Maybe they chucked up his unusual behavior to being "unpredictable" but many people live in pain and have been depressed and suicidal their whole lives without their closest family members having the slightest clue about it.

I was missing for years. I loved my family so much, but the drama they were all going thru bogged me down and being the eldest I felt I can fix it. Wore me down. But also add drugs, not wanting the fam to see it and drugs taking all my time and bam, 15 yrs passed. And of course i was all cash, under the radar. It got so to 3 yrs then 5yrs and I didn't know how to reach out. I was embarrassed. BUT ALMOST 16 YRS MISSING, On Facebook someone saw me and it helped ease me getting in touch. Oh I've been bk wth family for 2 decades now. So you see, there are miracles. It's imp. to fund out if mental illness is involved bc that can change the outcome unfort. Keep hope but no matter, you will see them again 🙏

Yes, both of these first lad's families obviously loved them, but.....when they were describing the family dynamics I was cringing. That would have been far too much togetherness in our family of 6 kids. Our parents were always there for us but not so wrapped up in us. My siblings and I would have balked at that for sure.

Yvonne said she remembered stopping at the cottage and her dad asking their mom, "Are you going to go in?" Their mom said no and they left. So maybe, the mom told her husband about Beryl and they went back to the cottage but Beryl's mother decided not to check on Beryl? Just a thought. I think maybe the sibling's father might have known. Beryl is a wonderful woman, she deserved some answers but resigned to going forward instead of dwelling on the why. Very sad about Matt, but at least the family got to put him to rest. Broke my heart to see his parents cry.

When my cousin found her dad , she found she had 2 older sisters & 2 younger. Looking at the photo, it actually looked like quadruplets lol. He first told my aunt he was divorced, then when she was pregnant she wanted to marry ,he said oh I am not totally divorced only legally separated.

One of the times people are most likely to experience depression is at the end of a university experience. The fear of what's next or the realization that you've invested years of your life (and thousands of dollars) into something that you now realize isn't for you can be too much. I couldn't get out of bed for 6 months after I graduated and I attempted to end my life in the years after. So thankful I made it through. And so sad for all those who don't.

In the case of Matthew, I think he had some sort of psychological issue, maybe his family didn´t want to talk about it during the show. It seems to me he had depression and some trigger happened in his life - either a bad relationship or school-related or work - that drove him to the edge. He didn´t think his family would understand and thought he would take some time off from life to figure things out. Because the family was so sweet, I think he didn´t want them to think he was a failure, so he just walked walked walked to see if his mind could clear up and find a way out... His parents should´ve been contacted when he was at a hospital treated for dehydration - clearly, something was wrong with him, he should not have been left alone. There is a show in the USA called Vanished, there are at least 3 stories very similar to this one - sons who vanished without a trace and whose remains were found later. In these cases, people around them suspected something was wrong with them mentally but did not know what to do... Today, mental health is more talked about, there are more hotlines and treatments without stigma as these people need medical attention - they cannot figure things out on their own...

The numbers of missing people is staggering. I had thought that it would be a rare occurrence that someone from a normal, stable family with lots of love, would open the door one day, walk through it and never return. And then to be in a situation like Beryl's, where she spent years trying to find the mother who left her, only to find out at the age of 68 that she has four siblings who grew up with their mother and knew nothing about Beryl. I can't help wondering why the mother didn't come back for Beryl at some point and raise her along with the siblings that came along in the years following. It's impossible to know what goes through people's minds. I'm just glad that Beryl has now found her "family".

I wonder if her dear old dad, wasn't such a dear husband and mom did a runner. They had another story several years ago where the son didn't know why his mom left and it turned out she was beaten by his father and fled. She'd left him behind because the father wasn't abusive towards the child and she was fearful that had she taken her son, he would have followed them and possibly killed her. Leaving the boy would have satisfied the dad.

Most times the simplest explanation is the correct one. I believe her mother fell in love with a man, and back then, he most probably didn't want to know anything about raising another man's children so she chose her new man instead of her children...

Poor Beryl. Her mum probably didn’t want her Husband to be bereft of his only Daughter since she was eloping with someone else. How could she have taken everything and left hm nothing? She probably never contacted Beryl as she had abandoned her and didn’t have the courage to face her ever. She must have thought of her and thought of looking her up but lost her courage when she chose not to go inside the house. Beryl should have asked about her Mother from her own dad. Beryl ‘s mum couldn’t speak of her to her other children because it was a less than ideal picture of a flawed individual who was otherwise a good mum and good Wife to their own Father. Looks like Beryl’s own dad never married Nor had any other children. I’m quite sure the siblings will forever compensate for all that Beryl never had - the love of their Mother.

Heart wrenching. How very difficult it must be for the families. I to have a half sister whom I’ve only seen twice since the mid 60’s. Both times in the early 90’s for a couple days. Last I knew she was in Seattle Washington USA. I live in Canada and have since I was roughly 3. It’s been 30 years roughly and I’ve tried to find her but with no luck. I’m in my early 60’s now and I’m not even sure if she’s still alive. It’s like she disappeared and I’ve found no trace on social media. I admire those of this show who work so hard to rebuild families and relationships.

i suspect Matthew had a mental break. schizophrenia can occur in teen years or early adulthood. i think this because he was not taking care of himself. he didn’t leave with proper clothing and was just walking aimlessly. it’s very upsetting, but it could have been the case. in the second case, they did know he was bipolar, but do not mention if he was on meds or not. depressions are very deep and the highs are wonderful. or he could have had an accident. i feel for these families. . .

I am also given away due to my health issues as an infant. My twin brother was kept. We were reunited as graders but my grandparents who raised me as their own, moved to the Philippines making it rare to see them as often... I did not have a happy childhood! My grannies were very strict to the point that I felt no freedom at all! When they passed away... I started to reach out for my brothers and parents. Except for my mum, all of them were indifferent to me. Years later with advent of DNA, they became more indifferent! My twin brother, whom everybody regard as my fraternal brother, is not related to me? DNA showed. But wonder of wonder, our children are first cousins according to DNA! Puzzled we were, I leave it as it is....just sharing...

About 4 yrs ago I got a txt from a young woman who said I was a match to her DNA test. Turns out I am her great aunt. My brother was her grandfather. His son had known this young woman's mother when they were in their teens in the 80s. He was 18. When he found out she was under age he sent her back to her home (100 miles away, she had left home). She found that she was pregnant and tried to find him and was not able to. She had my great neice who was told the story years later & always desired to find her father. Long story short, she & her husband and 3 children were reunited with her father, grandfather and other family. 5 people were restored to my family that day. There are no words. I believe that God is a God of CONNECTION! These stories of people reconnecting to their families just touch my heart so deeply. And I am always reminded that even tho they seem 'Lost', God knows exactly where they are & desires to bring these families back together. Ty Long Lost Families for the incredible, beautiful work you do. Good Bless you!

Possibly Beryl's mother had an affair and left to start a new life and family with a new man. Beryl was raised by her father and her mother's sisters so it seems that Beryl's mother even abandoned her siblings as well. It does make sense as to why she was never spoken of again. It's also interesting to note that the three siblings no very little about their mother's earlier life. Surely Matt realises his parents and sister live in fear and dread every day, and in a complete state! If he loves them, can't he just call and say he's fine but doesn't want to be bothered, so they can rest? It's torn up their entire lives! He left willingly!

I'M NOT NOT ADOPTED BUT OTHER THAN MY AUNTS AND UNCLES AND GRANDPARENTS ON MY MOTHER"S SIDE, I HAVE DRAWN A BLANK. I'VE ALWAYS HAD A VERY VERY STRONG LONGING TO KNOW WHO MY DAD'S FAMILY WAS AND WHO WERE MY GRANDPARENTS? I HAD A HORRIBLE CHILDHOOD. RARELY FOOD TO EAT. LOTS OF DAYS OF TAKING MOLD OFF THE BREAD AND PUTTING SUGAR ON TOP WAS IT ALWAYS LIKE THIS FOR MY ANCESTORS ON BOTH MY PARENTS SIDES. THE LITTLE GIRL ME USED TO IMAGINE THAT MY PAST FAMILY WERE KINGS AND QUEENS. BUT NOT ONLY WERE THEY ROYALTY, THEY FOUGHT AND WON WARS ALONG SIDE THEIR SOLDIERS. THEY WERE LOVED BY THEIR COUNTRY MEN AND 💜❤FAR AND WIDE. LEAVING THOSE CHILDISH DREAMS BEHIND, I'M NOW 63 YEARS OLD AND STILL KNOW NOTHING. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO OR WHERE TO START AND I'M AFRAID I'LL DIE CLUELESS.

@@aileenem.8461 I googled his name tonight after watching this episode.Simon is still missing but Matthew's skeletal remains were found in June of this year, not far from where he was last seen. The medical examiner wasn't able to determine a cause of death,so if he took his own life,it wasn't with something like a gun;nothing that would leave marks on skeletal remains. So,so sad.He was so young.

a quick google of his name shows that his remains were found in a field about 5 miles from the hotel he last stayed at. I didn't see a definitive cause of death. But hopefully it was something peaceful. very unfortunate that he didn't seek out help.

My mother met a Turkish man and got pregnant in Denmark. He was in my life until I was around a year old and after that I really don’t know what happened. I’ve never really had the courage to ask my mom what happened. I’ve heard bits and pieces from an aunt but not much. We even visited Turkey with him and I have pictures. That feeling never goes away, like why did he leave and not keep in touch with me.

Simon is still missing, but as already mentioned,Matthew is dead. His skeletal remains were found not far from where he was last seen in Worcestershire,in a field.A medical examiner wasn't able to determine a cause of death, but there weren't any signs of foul play,so its likely that he either died of exposure or took his own life in a way that didn't leave marks on his bones.Very, very sad.

Yes doing a phd can cause a mental break down. Because you can pass all your couses do everything right and still not get your degree. It is more stressfull than an ordinary degree, since it's "a maybe degree" maybe your advisor will accept your work after (being his or her servant for 6 or 7 years). Or maybe they will never give you the phd, because your not a good delivery boy or office cleaner or ghost writer or ghost researcher for their book? Then if you do get your phd, their are no full time jobs, just part time (almost minimum wage jobs at colleges) Some schools in usa harvard, mit, yake 87 to 97% graduate and get their degrees!! Then bottom schools like CUNY GRADUATE CENTER only 20% graduate. (When i went to that school in their literature they claimed that most students get their phd, which is a lie. Stats are only 20% graduate.) People with good coping skills go on to business and private industry and are highlly paid and successful and people without good coping skills break down and need to seek mental health treatments. 0

Bipolar is a diagnosis that in America is a diagnose that many can use to get on immediate social security benefits. Not saying that it's a true problem, just saying it's used frequently and if diagnosed properly it will be treated correctly and help patients get the treatment they need. May God bless all who need help ❤❤

Undiagnosed autistic people are more likely to disappear for many reasons. They often go into "shut down" and if it's bad enough, may be likely to disappear for years, then reappear. Often they need to escape society, which doesn't make sense to them, and because masking is so exhausting, they need a long break, and feel they are on the wrong planet. They are also more vulnerable because they don't read social cues and can often be more trusting of people who may harm them. THey are more likely to have nervous breakdowns. If we all become more familiar with the signs of high functioning autism, we can offer better support to the ones we love, and if any see autism in themselves, they can ask for the support they need from family and even work environment, so they are less likely to need to shut down. I see signs of autism in Matt.
