They say she is a contralto (lowest female voice). Some say is also polyphonic (dual sound). You have to be born this way, but she is able to totally control it. Can go from head voice to mix to chest voice. Hence her yodeling ability. If you want to see yodeling(Diana Russian Kids Voice) did at 14 yo. The one you watched and several others are from a special singing show (for orphaned or neglected kids) "You Are Super" watch all performances of her. Song "Human" if you want low. She turned 18 in May 2021

She is 18... and she is AMAZING. This is one of my favorite covers of the song. I never knew this song until I watched LUCIFER, the Netflix series. Tom Ellis who plays Lucifer often sings in the show, and he sang Wicked Game as well. He isn't a singer, but he did a really good job with his version of the song.

It's polyphonic overtone singing. That's the name of the effect. She produces enough resonance and harmonics to produce multi-tonal sound. You normally only hear something like that instrumentally. Hearing it lyrically is really different. She can essentially create an in-voice harmony with herself. That combined with her contralto voice type is what is both so unsettling and captivating at the same time. That and yodeling technique is part of her sound. This particular song didn't utilize the yodeling.

So the story goes that at the age of three in the middle of Russia's far northern Winter, she was abandoned, injured, at a bus stop where she was rescued and sent to an orphanage. From the age of 3, by the age of 5, she was still traumatized and unable to speak properly not even her own language apparently. A massage therapist who used to visit the orphanage trying to help kids was the first to recognize something special in this little girl and eventually adopted her. Diana was sent for singing lessons because it was thought that this might help her learn to speak without impediment. So with the support of her mother and musical/vocal coach was able to help her, I guess you can say find her voice. Only two years later she started singing in local theater, and in street plays/performances. And soon after was entered a Russian TV music competition for disadvantaged children. By the age of 10, she was winning local competitions, singing on live TV shows, and her songs started showing up on KZbin. At the age of 15, she sang 'Wicked Games' with such passion and power for a 15-year-old. Now recently at the age of 18, her first performance during a new Russian television competition "The Show Must Go On" with several other renowned performers has gone viral and has garnered hundreds of 'KZbin reaction videos', and millions of viewers. Her first song at the competition, an entirely new take on Elvis Presley's 'Can't Help Falling in Love with You' has been called mesmerizing, transcendental, other-worldly, and even demonic with her beautiful contralto voice... The song really helped her highlight her uniquely deep voice, and effortless range from low to high, along with her trademark dramatic and passionate interpretation. Diana Ankudinova sings mostly in Russian, English, and French. She has also sung in other languages including such as Spanish, German, and Arabic. I mean come on she couldn't speak her own language at one time, and now is Singing in other languages, and started at the age of 10 I mean wow, and on a big stage like on a Russian TV show...at that, I give great credit to her mom and her vocal coach with the grate sport in helping her through her traumatic times and really helped her find her voice, and what a great voice. As others have said, Diana's using polyphonic singing methods by lowering her larynx absurdly far to get that resonance an octave lower than the note she actually sings. It's a method similar to the subharmonics used by some bass singers. A fantastic explanation by the absolute master of bass singing Geoff Castellucci can be found here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jnyvkox9fa-igK8 I know there's so much great music out there, but Geoff Castellucci is one of those singers that leaves you with your jaw on the floor; I'd love to see you react to "16 Tons" or "Blackbird" or "Misty Mountains Cold", or best of all "Oogie Boogie" with his acapella group VoicePlay. I'd also love to see you react to Diana singing "Rechenka", a folk song where an orphan girl speaks to the spirits of the dead in a small river ("rechenka") about how lonely she is; this is an especially powerful song since Diana was raised in an orphanage from the age of 3 after her abusive mother broke her clavicles and three ribs. She had difficulty speaking but loved to sing, and was fostered, then adopted, but a voice instructor who you can see backstage in the performance. Her adoptive parents both died in the last year. Finally, the last judge to vote for her in this video is Igor Krutoy, the millionaire composer / producer who has written quite a lot of Dimash's recent music. At the end of "Sinful Passion", you can see him in the front row giving a standing ovation. There'd been something of a scandal a few years earlier when Diana didn't win a "best young singer" contest, so her triumph here has the added savor of redemption.
