I find it funny that Peter Boyle was in Taxi Driver too.

He was really good in Taxi Driver, even though he had a small role.

Hi Donny, Awesome looking books on Tarantino, love that Peckinpah & McQueen photo from "The Getaway" on the cover, his last so called movie a odd choice from him which he gave more details about on his recent 60th Birthday, violence i expect some in a Tarantino movie. I actually think that "Walking Tall" with Dwayne Johnson is one of his better movies from his career, I"ve seen "Crossroads" many years ago & didn"t realise Walter Hill directed it, i"m due to watch "Dead for a dollar" soon, many thanks for getting us a copy of "His name is Holy Ghost" i can now get rid of my dvd bootleg finally. That"s a Jackie Chan movie i"ve never seen, might have to consider that one. Nice edition of "Dragonslayer" Fine update Sir !

Hi Carlos, Tarantino's last movie is an odd choice, but a curious one. I said in the video that it will be based on Pauline Kael, but apparently that's not true, which he stated while being interviewed in Amsterdam. However, it will be about a female movie critic and the story will be set in the 1970's. I didn't really care for Dwayne Johnson's Walking Tall remake to be honest. Let me know what you think of Dead for a Dollar. I thought it was an okay flick. Yes, you can now get rid of the Spirito Santo bootleg 😉I'm surprised Gianni Garko didn't make more films of this character. Maybe the movie didn't do well at the box office. Cheers, my friend! Take care!

Cool haul/update as usual Donny, I look forward to this every month. Might have to pick up a copy of that Tarantino book myself down the road, looks very interesting. Some of Tarantino's opinion don't gel with me too, but he's so fascinating to listen to and read about that you can overlook those things and enjoy his stuff. Him doing a biography or fan retrospective on Corbucci would be a curious read as well, he already did the documentary Django & Django. Peter Boyle was approached to play Popeye Doyle in The French Connection after doing Joe, but he turned it down because he was appalled that people sympathized with Joe, who was written to be an unlikable jerk, and vowed never again to play characters he thought were similar. I enjoyed the Dwayne Johnson version of Walking Tall to be honest, though it was partly because I was big fan of his during his Pro Wrestling days. Haven't seen the Joe Don Baker version yet, but I'll definitely check it out someday. Walter Hill certainly was a jack of trades kind of filmmaker from those pickups there, dramas, action, Westerns, Sci-Fi., he tried it all. That Spirito Santo set looks fabulous, so excited for our trade, I can definitely get your requested item btw. Jackie Chan is the man, one of the first Martial Artists I became a fan of. Hope you're well my friend, take care, and speak to you soon.

You're right, Steve. Whether you agree with Tarantino or not, you enjoy listening to the man, and read what he has to say and he absolutely knows his stuff. I read that too about Peter Boyle being appalled by the audience reaction and decided not to do violent films anymore. However, he was in Taxi Driver and Red Heat, but his scenes didn't contain any violence. Yeah, Walter Hill tackled many different genres. Some were succesful and others... not so much. I have ordered one of the other titles from Plaion Pictures that you wanted. I'll email you soon about it. Thanks for watching and commenting, my friend. Hope you're well.

Dragonslayer was a big film for me in my formative years, i used to have a big Quad poster on my wall. I hunted round for the VHS for that foryears when i was collecting that format, it's one of the few VHS i still have. Im still waiting for mycopy to arrive , but it looks awesome. Great update Donny

Great additions to an already unique library of movies Donny! I have to thank you twice; first of all for the awesome Castellari tape you sent me and second, for mentioning and showing us this Tarantino book in your video. Ordered it right away!

Thank you very much, Ramon. I'm glad you like the High Crime tape. I couldn't believe you didn't have the movie yet, so I decided to give you that one. I hope you will enjoy the Tarantino book as much as I did. Take care!

Yes. Joe gets forgotten about. I was lucky to pick up the standard DVD release through Optimum Releasing in the UK. Joe is now OOP in the UK. Director John G. Avildsen did some interesting films outside The Karate Kid films, including his finest work Save the Tiger and Lean on Me. I was never a great fan of The Karate Kid or Rocky films, I don't mind the first Rocky film from 1978, but Avildsen career has been very up and down film wise. Dragonslayer certainly deserves a decent 4K transfer, its been too long. Beautiful scenery in North Wales and great set design by the late Elliott Scott. The Outfit is a lost classic, much like The Last Run with George C Scott.

Joe is certainly an overlooked gem. Of all the John G. Avildson films I have seen, it's his best one, next to Rocky 1. I never saw Safe the Tiger, but I did watch Lean On Me, although it's been quite some years ago. Tarantino recently talked about The Last Run in the Video Archives Podcast with Roger Avery. It's a title I have to grab very soon. Thanks for watching and commenting, friend. Take care!

Wow Donnie!!! great collection of stuff this month!! I also got the Quentin Tarantino Book, and I also made a video, which will be out soon, but man some great releases, :dead for a dollar" I think the script sunk that one, it had a great cast and a capable director, idk what happened, shame! I need a piece of paper to write down all the great releases! lol take care Donnie!

Thanks, Mike! I wanted to get every film that Tarantino talks about in his book. I still have to get some other titles, including Paradise Alley and Daisy Miller. Walter Hill clearly lost his mojo, hasn't he? But Dead for a Dollar was okay. Take care, buddy!

Nice pickups Donny! Your really dedicated to getting all of Walter Hill’s films aren’t ya. Fortunately that last film you mentioned that Madso’s War is out on DVD in the U.S., like you said I heard it’s bad as well. That Dragonslayer steelbook is a thing of beauty, but the film needed more Vermithrax. Off topic but do you know if that resistance banker blu-ray you showed a year ago has english subtitles or not? I was gonna ask you when the update came out but I forgot.
@CinemaniacSeventy7 Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Walter Hill is one of my favorite directors, so I want to complete his filmography, which also includes the bad ones. I'm going to search the DVD of Madso's War. The Blu-ray of The Resistance Banker only has Dutch subtitles.
