Voice quality matters a lot for singer even more than his tallent. Voice quality of Udit Narayan was much beautiful than other singers in his era, that's why Udit Narayan got more songs then Kumar Sanu, Sonu Nigam, Abhijeet & Vinod. Just like Alka Yagnik did the same. In female section, Alka Yagnik had the most beautiful voice that's why she got more songs than Anuradha, Kavita, & Sadhna, etc. The whole thing is " voice quality ".

Agree, however, in those days there were no reality shows exposure, Beautiful voices were one thing but the singing art and vocal ranges, classical base, some of the other singers were better

Qurbani was scored by Kalyanji Anandji and not LP. Biddu did one song - Aap Jaisa Koi Sapna has a great voice. But I guess, Alka was better. Like Kalyanpur and Lata. Suman Kalyanpur was great but Lata was better. I guess these singers were born in the wrong era.
